Walnut shouldn't get back in the England first XI because of Townsend

Did he, I suppose I can stretch my 'few weeks' to include that! :D

Agree with your post though, I'm not saying his right foot was non-existant, like you say confidence to use it is half of it, and his recent success with it will give FB's something more to think about, hopefully causing indecision to exploit.

Too be honest. I'm more concerned with the effect Townsend will have on Lennon for us than for Walcott and England.

Hopefully we finally have the right wing competition that Lennon needs to push forwards and improve his play.

I'm also curious as to what would happen if Townsend played on the left sometimes, and cut in onto his right foot as an option. I remember he looked quite effective as a left winger before, if a little one-footed. He definitely has two feet now!

We now have appear to have a rare abundance of riches in the winger department!!

    Good times.

I think Lennon is an old dog who's unable to learn new tricks. What we've seen of Lennon is what we've got, and that wont change.

I'd still pick Lennon over Townsend at the moment.

    Good times indeed.

Crappy quality, but here's Townsend's goal against Shamrock Rovers:

Superb finish against less than superb opposition.

Also got a decent one with his right against Yeovil for Orient:

    Against Brighton in the U21s:

Against Charlton in the FA Cup on his senior debut:

    And against Coventry for Millwall:

Think he's got a few more, but I'm struggling to find them.

Well seeing as its now being shown he does have a pretty reliable right foot, I hadn't watched enough of him to know really, I hope to see more of it, very impressive so far.

For the other debate if Lennon came back fit now, I'd leave Andros in, its his place to lose atm as I see it.

Townsend on the left, Lennon on the right. Lots of pace and crosses for Soldado.

Lennon on the left, Townsend on the right and let them swap? Lennon's surprisingly handy running through the middle and off the left touch line.

Probably leave Lennon on the bench for now though.

I missed the England match as I was getting my arse handed to me at Top Golf, I managed to catch a bit of highlights, saw Andros' peach of a goal. Sounds like he had a great game and if he manages to maintain that sort of performance for club and country then neither Walcott/ Milner/ Young etc will oust him providing Hodgson keeps faith. Good on the lad, he's a had a great past 10 or so months since his QPR loan, if he can improve his team work abilities a bit more then he'll become one hell of a player. A few have joked on Twitter calling him Andros Robben.

To me, that is now a very exciting prospect. As is this...

Let's hope Mr. AVB reads these posts.

Er.. Nice goal RobSpur, but I'm not sure why it's in this thread with these lot. A little random, no? Or is it just me?

Yeah Lennon and Townsend works for me. Both can play effectively on either side.

I think in the long run Lamela will definitely become "the main man" and I still think Chadli can become a top player here.

Nailed it. I would prefer no Spurs players to play for england. Until England sort themselves out and start actually playing football i can't support the inclusion of our players. Who would be happy if every month or so a number of our players went to play for Pulis' Stoke?

More players (well, Spurs players...) get injured in training for England than in the actual games.

I am wondering how lamela is going to play over Townsend and Lennon, to be honest.

After some if us (including myself) saying that Lennon could struggle for game time, his absence has shown that we miss him badly. - he could also be the key to soldado finding the goals.

At the same time, Townsend can't be dropped, which makes things very difficult for lamela right now.

Perhaps we should be looking at these combinations:

    Soldado
    Townsend eriksen Lennon

    And

    Defoe
    Chadli holtby lamela

JD seem to be able to deal with the wide men cutting in, where as it appears soldado could do with actual wingers.

This way, everyone plays and the likes of lamela and chadli will get to bed in through Europa, playing more minutes than we've seen so far.

I'm with SoS. I see Lamela playing in the long run. He is still adapting and has the hardest adaptation to do (i believe he is not fluent in english?). It must be tough.
At the moment we can't drop Townsend, despite the fact he frustrates me sometimes. Why is he better for England than Spurs? Lennon needs to force his way back in through training and sub appearances, chucking him straight back in has never been a good idea with Lennon, he often struggles for form after an injury

Lamela may also flop, if there is a candidate for that in our new signings he would seem most likely. Its hard to believe that all the summer signings are going to be a huge success, there's bound to be one that doesn't quite work. I don't base this solely on football reasons, more that he seems to be the one with a bit of difficulty settling in to English life, not just English football. On that note someone told me the other day that Soldado's family aren't happy with London either, though I can't substantiate that one way or the other. Back to Lamela's football reasons, not many as he's been played out of position so far.

I sincerely hope not, as he is a talent, but it was a lot of money, and for me this is a big call from Baldini who till now I've said little about. I'm now watching his judgement very closely, as its unclear to me why we have so many similar players.

Think it's because the standard of defence of both Montenegro and Poland aren't anywhere near what you get in the EPL.

Yeah Lamela has it harder than anyone to settle, still expected a bit more from him but with being a slight of frame guy used to playing in Serie A, not knowing a word of English and dealing with the awful situation with his brother, you can't blame him for not setting the world alight yet. But I think given time, he'll become one of the league's best players. Took Bale about 4 years!

  19. Well, after a second impressive showing for England, I am now certain that Townsend's name will be the first on the England team-sheet for that right-side position, with Walnut being a very distant second.

Gooners may well be shrugging this off with the usual "oh, well, at least Walnut won't get injured" old pony, but Walnut will be devastated knowing that he's lost his starting spot for the Word Cup, and I, for one, will now be watching to see how far his Prem form dips.

    Ozil injured, too, I notice.

Not looking good for the Gooners in the run-up to Xmas. Could see us, Mousers, £ity, and Chavs breeze past them in the lead up to the New Year.
