I'm talking, of course, about the £20 million fee that "king" Kenny has paid for Jordan Henderson. That's £55 million spent on two players (£35 million spent on buying Carroll) in less than 6 months. I've been listening to the news on radio and in the media, and the general consensus seems to be that, whilst Henderson has potential, £20 million is a silly price to pay for him. Do you think the king will bankrupt 'Pool?
Can we not use the word rape to describe it, please? It's a bit unnecessary. I think that they could probably have got him for less and the only Mackem I know said that he'd yet to see what all the fuss was about when I asked him about Henderson in January, but he does look like a tidy enough player. They seem to have suddenly gone quite English in their signings, for some reason.
There's nothing wrong with the word "raped" as used in this context. You might not feel that the asking price is so high as to justify such a figurative term, and you are entitled to your opinion; but to say that I shouldn't pose the question in that way is somewhat arrogant, PNP. I take the view, like a lot of the professional pundits, that the fee is high, and that to use the word "raped" to figuratively express the degree to which I believe the player's price was over-hiked is justified. I'm entitled to my opinion, too, surely?
What happened to Spearing and Shelvey? Can't see them getting a lot of first team football if another young midfielding prospect has been brought in. I think they'd have been better investing the £20m into another striker rather than loading one off too, all it takes is Suarez to get a knock and then they're pretty much reliant on sicknote Carroll. So I guess Kenny is going to be competiting with us for new strikers?
Arrogant? Saying that I don't feel that a comparison between a violent, forced sexual act and an overly expensive transfer is necessary is arrogant, is it? It's insensitive and inappropriate, in my opinion and I'm not a very PC person, either.
I think you are being overly sensitive, PNP. After all, I take it that you are not a 12 year old with emotional attachment issues? But, if you are that sensitive, I'd swap the word for "mugged" instead. [I can't actually edit the title because the system only enables one to edit the text in ones post.]
Do I strike you as somebody that's overly sensitive, GST? I just feel that comparing a transfer to rape is unnecessary and not even a particularly accurate analogy, either. They didn't have anything forced onto them, did they? Some things shouldn't have a place in football or even football banter, in my opinion. Rape, *****philia, racism, genocide and Mark Clattenburg, mainly.
I thought the OP had missed out "p" and it should have been rapped as in "rapped over the knuckles", maybe a bit more appropriate than "raped" as it does not fit into the context of the statement
It was £12m + N'gog to be precise. Meanwhile, read this article and understand why we paid that fee for Henderson. (Btw, Manchester United are going to pay £17m for Jones, we aren't the only ones buying english)
Was the inital title of this thread - Liverpool raped yet again over on transfer fees for an English player! ? I've just seen this article so a bit puzzled why rape is being mentioned?
Do you have a reliable source for this claim, as it appears to contradict everything else that I've read. Not that I put much faith in the media, mind. I don't think that many Spurs fans need to be convincing on the merits of buying young, top notch, English players, though.
I see. Describing over paying for a footballer as rape is a bit strong, however i'm sure the OP was using it in the football context like a lot of people do. e.g. - He has the touch of a rapist (in reference to a poor 1st touch) & http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...Day-pundit-compares-football-tackle-rape.html
Okay, fair enough. Oh, I see that the Administrator has helped me out by changing the title. Many thanks, sir!
It was, gov'nor. But I have seen the error or my ways. I've taken a cuff 'round the ear from a friendly copper, and ain't never gonna stray again from the straight and narra' no more, and strike a light if ever I did, mister.
Liverpool fan here. I'm not gonna complain about us spending big amounts of money. If the guys in charge wanna spend big then bring it on, i have trust in them and i'm sure they know a lot more than us guys on here about how to run a football club. I guess only time will tell, but Kenny always spotted a great player last time round. And about bankrupting us, that is just crazy. Just watching SSN and Peter Beardsley said that no-one in the game comes close to spotting players like Kenny and his ability to bring youngsters through is on a different level to anyone else in the game. We're see how it pans out over the next few years.
Peter Beardsley is hardly neutral though is he. I wonder how much Comolli is involved with this signing.
