Parachute payments weren't around back then... we did not see the benefit of them and if we did we wouldn't still be struggling in the lower leagues. We ended up getting relegated again because we couldn't get our finances right. They have just been introduced within the last 5 or 6 years, you don't know what your on about.

And we earned our right to be in the champions league by our position in the league so its all relative. We earned money by being one of the best four teams in europe (in that competition at least), you have earned money by being the worst team in the premier league. Your argument is invalid, you cannot possibly compare these two.

I dont believe you fully understand what parachute payments are and why you get them. No actual fan of football agrees with parachute payments, even fans of teams that benefit from them that I have spoken to think they are stupid. Would you accept them if they were offered, of course you would and thats why its the FA's fault for offering them.

    I said "personal insults".

There is nothing personal in calling you a Leeds fan.

Both of your insults were aimed at me personally.

Well no you implied leeds were a joke, admittedly its not a personal insult but it what does that matter? You were trying to offend and get me to bite. I don't apologise for things I say as I mean every word. Its pure ignorance to compare a champions league achievement and relegation.

Just try to view them from a different point of view, imagine you are a huddersfield fan and these teams get relegated from the premier league already with a team full of premiership quality players after splashing the cash in the prem and a huge wage bill and then get given an extra 50m over a few seasons because they got relegated. You then think, well we never have any chance of competing with them and getting to the premier league

First of all, I will point out to you that we won this league 2 years ago competing against teams who had been relegated from the Premier League and who had received parachute payments so it can be done. It is an unfair playing field but it has been that way for the last 6/7/8 years, however many. It proves it can be done None of the teams who got relegated last year Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves came straight back up. It is early days yet this year so nobody can say with certainty whether the three who got relegated this year will come straight back up.

Secondly, I will remind you that it is against the rules of this forum to personally insult other posters.

Yes, your right you did get promoted that year while competing against other teams with parachute payments but you also had outside investment that year which helped your cause. I've not once said it is impossible, and I also haven't complained about the teams which have them. All I am saying is that their is no real reason for the FA to help out the clubs that got relegated anymore than any other team in the league. Why widen the gap? Surely as a neutral (which the FA are supposed to be) they would want the most competitive leagues possible.

<laugh> don't take so much to heart...

<laugh> out of interest are you a grown man?

You realised you lost the debate and then went back to my first response (prior to which you had commented between and seemed fine with it until later) to complain about something I said. If you can't deal with that then I think the internet may be a little strong for you.

Alternatively, you can just use the ignore button.

I still don't get why other fans feel the need to go onto other boards to irritate other fans.
It's not like can go off to bed at night and feel like you have achieved something.
Unless you have something encouraging to share with other fans .................... your only going to achieve zip.
If you feel you need to do this for self acknowledgement, we can only pity you.

The parachute payments are an attempt to stop relegated clubs going bankrupt. When promoted to the Prem clubs have to overextend themselves financially in an (often vain) attempt to stay up, to compete with the teams that have had big income streams for years. Of course this is just made worse with the massive hike in TV money this year, the gap between the leagues is growing ever more stark. If a promoted club stays in the Prem for 2 seasons, it is at least £120m better off than any newly promoted club. Soon the (relatively secret) wish of prem clubs to cut out relegation all together will be come de facto reality, as no newly promoted club will be able to compete and the 3 clubs coming up will always be the 3 going down unless they have mega rich backers prepared to spend. Just give it a few years.

Blame TV, it will all come crashing down one day and we will end up happier. Personally I'm finding it quite liberating that we don't get streams for every game in the Championship, puts the whole thing into better perspective. Sometimes I go whole minutes without thinking about QPR.

Mate, the last thing I will say on it. If you read my initial post its not even talking about QPR, if you take offense to that then it says more about you than me. Everything I have said is directed at the FA and my view on parachute payments, if that is considered wumming then you guys needs to talk to the wall fans more often because you don't know what wumming is

See this view I can understand, however I don't think it helps the championship as the FA are intending. I think clubs in the premier league who have the chance of getting relegated need to manage themselves better in the possibility of relegation to have these backup plans in case it does happen. A club (and to save certain qpr fans distress in my comments) lets use Leeds as an example, we spent way over our means and got relegated because of it. We were so poorly managed that we had problems because of that, if this happened in this day and age, with the parachute payments we would've come down the championship and gone straight back up with ease but there has to be a punishment for overspending. Otherwise whats the incentive to run the club properly and not bring in all these overpaid overrated crap players (a bit like what you did last season I'm sure you can agree) and jsut get relegated if it doesn't work knowing the club will still exist at the end of the day no matter how badly you run it into the ground. It seems harsh on clubs and even moreso on the fans but if you are run poorly then you deserve the suffering afterwards

How about Wigan, much better run but will still have players on premier league contracts. By that I mean normal prem contracts, i.e. not extravagant but much higher than championship?

I've read this thread but not commented until now. However...

It's a bit naiive of you to suggest teams that are promoted into the Prem will hold off spending massively 'in case they go down'. Not embarking on a major spending spree will pretty much guarantee that the club is relegated straight away. Leeds (to use your example) are a prime example of that, as are Portsmouth. I'm not sure that Parachute Payments would have helped you as you suggest, because I'm pretty sure that Bates and Ridsdale would simply have lined their own pockets even more, had the money been there. They were a direct cause of your relegation down to League 1, because they were the ones that couldn't manage the finances properly - through a combination of greed, incompetence and pig-headedness.

We've been there - back in the 90s, we dropped down two levels when we had Chris Wright and the infamous ABC loan hanging over us, and more recently Ecclestone and Briatore had no interest in us as a club beyond how we could massage their egos and wallets.

What happened to us last year was down to poor choices at managerial and board level - the owners thought - mistakenly - that eleven good players would make a good team, and Mark Hughes allowed it to happen. We've learned from that, and now have a better team even though not so many big name players. The point is that you need to learn, not just repeat your mistakes. That's what we are doing, and at a fraction of what we spent last year. So the comments by Dean Hoyle are just jealousy and nothing more - if he could spend £100 million, he would.

None of this is the fault of parachute payments, however, and none of this is the fault of any fans - the system is what it is and we need to work within it. Most of the parachute payments go on necessary restructuring as a result of relegation - players move on (often at a loss to the club) and new players need to be bought in that will do a job at that level. There's a far greater financial burden on relegated clubs that on those who were in the Championship the previous year, and your argument, whilst very sensible, doesn't address the complete picture.

Anyway - there's a simple way to get the benefit that relegated teams allegedly have - get promoted. That's what we are looking to do this season, and so far, so good. How are you lot doing?
