Huddersfield Town: Dean Hoyle criticises 'horrendous' spending

Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle has criticised the amount of money some clubs in the Championship are spending to try to get promoted.
The Terriers are in their second season at that level following promotion and Hoyle says he will not gamble their future on attempting to go up again.
"This season our wage bill has gone down to £9m," he told BBC Radio Leeds.
"The top clubs in this league are paying around £25-30m and that is horrendous."

He added: "I've heard of a club in our league paying loan players £34,000 and they are taking huge risks.
"Some clubs that have come down from the top division have behaved unbelievably."
Meanwhile, Hoyle says he would support the introduction of safe standing areas at the club's John Smith's Stadium.
Town were not on a list of 13 English league sides that the Football Supporters' Federation claimed were interested in the reintroduction of standing last December.
All-seater stadiums have been compulsory in the Premier League and Championship since 1994, following Lord Justice Taylor's report after the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.
"I'm all for safe standing to be honest," he said.
"Safety has brought football up to date but when you look at how standing is managed in the Bundesliga then I'd be in favour of it."

Compared to last season and, in lieu of parachute payments, we're being very reasonable this season...

Couldn't any other team in the 'Prem' except Man U, City, Chelski, Spurs and Liverpool have the same argument? When we took to the field against City in the 3-2 game City's starting X1 cost £283m. They also bought on three subs that totalled £62m. Our starting X1 cost £17m!!!

Some people really annoy me - and they know who they are - the way they lay into people and don't name names.

As right as this statement is it doesn't do football as a whole any good.

I can see where Dean Hoyle is coming from, a small club like Huddersfield could never benefit from spending that big and would be the demise of the club. Its jealousy in some ways but its the same as Leeds at the moment and pretty much every team in the league, we just couldn't get away with spending that much. I don't blame QPR (although I do a little bit), I blame parachute payments. The amount of money in the prem is starting to ruin that league and you can see the same thing happening to the championship at the moment when a club like yours are spending as much as you are. Its becoming a little bit of a joke

A Leeds fan telling us our club is a bit of a joke???

As you say yourself Josh, it is jealousy. Pure unadulterated jealousy. I didn't hear you complain when Leeds spent millions under David O'Leary to get to the Champion League semi finals.

Where did I once say that your club is a bit of a joke <doh> read the comment again and you might realise that I was aiming it at the FA for the parachute payments...

Did you complain Josh about parachute payments when Leeds United were collecting huge sums of prize money for reaching the semi finals of the Champions League?

    The silence was deafening then.

Do you read your own comments before you post them <doh> Parachute payments didn't even exist back then, I have complained about them ever since they have been put into place.

Weirdly I have no problems with teams getting money for actually achieving something, last time I checked getting to the semi finals of the champions league is a bigger achievement than getting relegated from the premier league..

You need to check your mental state if you are seriously comparing the two.

Why is it that at this time of night, there is always a smart arse lurking.

So, when Leeds United got to the semi finals of the champion league, did you or did you not receive money that your league rivals in England did not receive? Did that money give your club a financial advantage over your rivals? The answer to both questions is obviously YES. That's exactly where we are at this point in time. It may be different next year or the year after but this year, we have a similar financial advantage. The fact we got relegated last year is neither here nor there.

If you didn't complain about your unfair financial advantage, don't complain about our's.

Well not really, given the fact I didn't come over here complaining about QPR (you've just taken offense to something that wasn't even directed at QPR, and are ignoring the fact that I have already said this).

How is that a unfair financial advantage? Getting to the semi finals of the champions league isn't easy and the team is rightly awarded money for their achievement. You got relegated and for some reason are awarded money for getting relegated, something that is not an achievement and should not give you an advantage. Do I really need to spell this out for you?

Do you not understand that when you are successful you are given money? Thats kind of the extra incentive to be successful, whereas you have been given money for being unsuccessful.

I'm not complaining about QPR here, its the stupid parachute payments that are put in place for seemingly no logical reason.

You can gain an unfair financial advantage by obtaining prize money from a competition that 75% of your league rivals can not enter.

When Leeds got relegated from the Premier League in 2003 and obtained parachute payments, did you go around other teams message boards and complain about parachute payments then or is this a new thing with you Josh?

You would swear parachute payments had just been introduced.

Your team have benefitted from them in the past. It is our turn now.

For the record, the personal insults were started by yourself.
