George Best who played in a testimonal game at Portman Road in 1983 if I'm not mistaken? "I spent most of my money on Women, Fast Cars and Booze... The rest I squandered!" What a true Legend
Bingo! And here's the proof: http://www.colorsport.co.uk/galleries/football/george-best-turns-out-for-ipswich
He had an awesome talent just a shame that he was blighted by his demons. Its hard to believe that he gave up 'serious' football at the age of just 28! Just imagine if he was around playing today! If Gareth Bale and Ronaldo are worth £80+ Million how much would Besty be worth???? Maybe just a few quid more than his bar tab! Another George Best story I really like is the one where he was in a posh hotel room with Miss World half naked on the bed beside him, £100K in cash chucked on the bed, and when the room service waiter came up with lobster and champagne, the waiter turns round after looking at all this and said most innocently... "George!... Where did it all go wrong!"
There was another story where Besty had scored three goals in the first half for Man U and was interviewed post-match, and came out with all the usual cliches...years later he admitted that he was so pissed from the night before that by the end of the match he couldn't even remember his first half hat trick! Legend!
My ex quite fairly didn't like old Best too much. Her aunt was refused the operation that he was granted before he continued to drink the valuable organ to a shrivel. Personally, I don't think you can judge people that way until you've walked in their shoes.
I bet you surely remember the 5 he stuck past Northampton! I also remember when he appeared on the TV Gameshow Bullseye! He was invited on to throw for charity. He only scored a paltry amount with his allocated number of darts so he offered to give the charity an extra £100! When he wasn't pissed he could be the most eloquent and intelligent human being imaginable. You can only wonder what if he had not been an alcoholic... A great bloke and a legend/
He had a punch up with Sir Bobby in the early days and was shipped out to Hull a few days later! He was hard as F uc k though!
How many players today would have stayed on their feet to score after being assaulted by Chopper Harris!
