Here's where you can record horses that you feel deserve to go into the notebook following a promising/unlucky run. I'll start it off with: Fulgur. Best form on soft, came with a storming run from the back under Fallon and eased near line in a slowly run race on good to firm (Newbury 3.10 14th May). His 2 runs on soft (both last year as a 2yo) resulted in a first time out second to comfortable winner Seattle Drive (lack of room hampered challenge) and an easy win at Newbury at the back end. It will be interesting to see how he fairs over 8-10f with a softer surface, particularly if Fallon is riding again. Entries: 17Jun11 3:05 (Early closer) at Ascot, King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2)
Sweet Chilli. (4th) York friday 1.30 Finished like a train to get 1L or so off Miss work of art. Entries: 16Jul11 3:20 (Early closer) at Newbury, Weatherbys Super Sprint 01Oct11 3:20 (Early closer) at Redcar, totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy (Listed Race)
nova hawk came 4th in the french 1000 guineas, she did well considering she had to make up more ground in a sprint finish then those in front of her. she as ran 2 solid races in 2 classics and as a coronation cup entry, but more likely to win her first raqce of the season in a french fillies group race. Entries: 17Jun11 3:45 (Early closer) at Ascot, Coronation Stakes (British Champions' Series) (Group 1)
Fulgur next runs in the King Edward at Ascot over 12f. Judging by the opposition could be a massive price.
Extracted from an earlier post; All Nighter virtually fits the bill. 7th of 15, but beaten less than 5l. The 3rd and 4th have both been out since and both won, comfortably. The 4th, also trained by Meehan was ridden by Richard Hills whereas All Nighter at 66/1 was ridden by a claimer. Martin Dwyer booked this time. Provided it's a decent price looks a decent ew bet. Finished 8th in that race but had a rough ride: "Gradually switched left after start, in touch hampered over 4f out, ridden well over 1f out, keeping on same pace when pushed right just inside final furlong, no impression after (tchd 4-1)" Worth another try. With a 7th and 8th against it from 2 runs could be a decent price next time. Entries: 01Oct11 3:20 (Early closer) at Redcar, totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy (Listed Race)
Good thread Ron, would love it to be stickied at the top of the forum for us all to latch onto!! A couple for you from today 8/6/2011 Proud Pearl - 2YO who was typically green on debut for Brian Meehan, she looks a Group horse in the making on possibly faster ground. Judicious - looks like a progressive sort for the season, won nicely in the end despite being a bit green. Think he is about 15lb well in if he improves as he seems likely to do.
Eastern Sun that won today (9th June) looked fairly useful in my opinion. Comes from a decent group winning family including Allied Powers Not too sure what he's entered at the moment though.
The Confessor, should have won (11th June) and will run a massive race off similar marks in the future.
11 June Class 3 Maiden York. Kevin Ryan trained Discression was beaten a length by useful Swiss Spirit after being slowly away. The pair pulled clear of the rest in what looked a decent maiden. It was the first outing for Discression which was perhaps his downfall. Should go one better next time.
Judicious runs tomorrow at Carlisle (4.15) on breeding the ground with cut in it should suit and is carrying only a 6lb penalty. If they don't dawdle he should win with some ease, at odds against he is a bet.
As Brown Panther is reckoned to be something special I'm going to include Census as one to note as he was finishing faster than anything. without Brown Panther in the field he would have been an impressive winner and goes into his next race (maybe) escaping a penalty?). Although a 1st Feb foal, he wasn't introduced to the racetrack until Sept last year so he's been looked after with a 3/4yo career in mind. He's out of a Selkirk mare. Don't know much about his sire Cacique, other than he's by Danehill out of a Kahyasi mare. I'm fairly confident he will win a staying handicap (12f +) whatever the going. No entries at present but given he showed he stays well on soft and also that he loved the good to firm when winning easily over 11f he shouldn't be too difficult to place.
Hi One that will be obvious to those that have watched the replay of the Wokingham (18/06/2011) is MAC'S POWER - he finished well in front of his group and surely would have gone close if he was on the other side. On first viewing of the race I was obviously concentrating on the side the first 7 were on so missed him. He is capable of winning a big handicap I would think. DIESCENTRIC ran today (19/06/2011) and finished 3rd in a handicap at Pontefract, he won the Wood Ditton as a 3yo but disapointed on his only other 3yo start. He finished last on his reappearance but may well have needed the run, he improved today and he should be capable of winning a race judging by todays efforts considering it was a fair race and he didn't have the best of luck in running.
I really liked the look of fort Bastuion - beaten by a filly who could well be good enough to keep the Marcel Boussac in Ballydoyle for another year and i thought ran pretty creditably.
Mister First his bumper form was awful but he has ran 2 decent races over hurdles now finishing 2nd and 3rd yesterday.Travels well through his races and will definitlety be winning a race very soon.
Roker Park - form of Newcastle race should be taken with a pinch of salt. Showed enough to suggest his mark is right, will probably win a 0-90 at a Northern track
Petara Bay- this Class 1 performer had a bad draw in the Northumberland Plate. He was fourth last most of the way and then passed most of the field coming inside the last two furlongs. He couldn't quicken as fast as the winner, Tominator, but then stayed on really strongly once he got going close home. His present mark of 102 is seven less than when he ran against Harbinger in the King George last year and he should be winning soon.
foxhaven ran a good 4th at windsor ,travelled well but kept on,first run of season for the 9yo.will fancy his chances in a 0-80 on good or softer going in his next 2 runs.
