He only tore the title page not the whole symphony after Bonaparte declared himself Emperor, thus angering Beethoven
Beethoven then threw the torn page on the floor. The page had to be re-copied and the title was changed from 'Bonaparte' to 'Sinfonia Eroica.'
You're getting closer Pete. He actually dedicated the symphony to Bonaparte, as beethoven was against royalty, and he looked on Bonaparte as a sort of hero. When he crowned himself emperor, Beethoven threw a fit, crossed out the dedication on the score and renamed it Eroica as you said Pete. He didn't actually tear it out, he just scratched though it. Over to you Simply or OPP
I think Ron is busy giving it to Simply so I will step in. Staying with Classical music - The 'Tonight' current affairs programme hosted by Cliff Michelmore on the BBC had which piece of music as it's theme? I am looking for both the title of the work and the composer.
