Would be brilliant to steal the signing from the Scummers :bandit:

It's good to see that Halford is doing his bit for the recruiment process (and he's not even a Pompey player yet), what a cool guy :afro:

Would be good to see them both playing for us next season (and would LOVE to see Howard score the winner against the Scum <laugh> Either him, or The King!)

The only reason Howard would sign for no hopers Portsmouth is because he knows he would not be first choice at Southampton. No secret that Halford would much sooner stay at Wolves. Wouldn,t say that Claridge is short of players (his words) but the smart info is that Pompey will have the team photo taken in a bus shelter

If it were not true then the club would have quickly scotched the rumour. Also I see we are linked with the Scunthorpe goalie Joe Murphy. Anyone know anything about him?

Cracking couple of signings if Cotts can pull them off <ok> Looks like Cotts might be heading for a 4-5-1 next season with Howard, Norris and Mullins. All of them should be considered starting XI material in this league, surely?

    Thats some midfield!

With Lawro on the right and ??? on the left with ??? upfront it looks good! :)

I am of course taking the proverbial!

We need Nugent. Those three, Lawro and Nugget - a 5 man midfield to be proud of!

Yeah, I was thinking those 3 in a flat central midfield with Lawrence and a left winger in slightly advanced positions out wide. I'm not a massive fan of playing 1 up front, especially at home games, but as Lawrence & Norris are both capable of scoring goals it world make sense- especially as it looks like we're going to be limited up front this season.

Gudjohnson would be a dream signing, would probably work well down the left wing supporting a striker, but I can't really see it happening. Still, we've been surprised before ;)

As far as strikers go, I'm a fan of Earnshaw. Wages might be a bit of a problem again though, I suppose.

Mirror reckon we're going to bid £1 million for Barnsley defender Jason Shackell <ok> I've also heard we're keeping track off a few Bournemouth players...

Got to count Halford as a defender, surely? And IMO Wards best position is RB.

Congratulations saintsalive !! Your very first post on NOT606 - on the Pompey page, NOT even on your own team's page, and you can't even get our Manager's name right - it's Cotterill, NOT Claridge !! For goodness sake do your homework before you come on here, or everyone will think you are a dozy thick muppett, with the brains of a ferret, and the charisma of a toad. :emoticon-0109-kiss:

It's a funny one with Ward. He does play well at RB, but he is also a threat going forward. As we saw with Johnson quite a bit, it is difficult sometimes to go forward, and then get back in time.

He played really really well in the centre of midfield last season, scoring a few and setting up a few more.

The brilliant thing about Ward is that he is versatile, and could play in a number of positions. Depending on what positions Cotterill strengthens the most, Ward will play where needed.

It'll be interesting to see how his American bootcamp would have changed his playing style <ok>

I think his American Bootcamp was to "bulk him up" - Ward, being young, still looked a little light weight to be a combative central midfielder.

Maybe SC has sent Ward out there to bulk up so he can fit the central midfielder role a bit better?

I had no idea Saints were even going for Howard beyond some vague speculation a couple of weeks ago.
