so let me get this straight . A man was born in this country , his parents were born in this country , his grandparents were born in this country and fought for this countrys very survival in world war 2 , his great grandparents who were born in this country in the 19th century and fought for the empire in world war one , THEIR parents who , were both born in his country . ..and as far as you care to go back , ( i can trace mine back to 1790 ) , . Then theres the man who was born in kosovo , he come to this country , learns a few historical facts and passes a "citizenship " test after 3 months or whatever . They are equally english ? In law maybe . But we know that the law is an ass .
I get what you mean In fact the 3 month thing is the exact opposite of what omgooner said in regards to a fast track system. Also he is not talking about Englishness but citizenship which are 2 different things. Also your concept of fighting in the wars can be taken another way over 3 million Indians fought in the World Wars 150k+ died fighting for the 'for this countrys very survival ' what about them and their descendants?? I wouldn't consider them English and neither would they I imagine. If you want to go back as far as you want how do you know your descended from Romans, Scandanavians etc etc. I consider myself English even though by now I have lived half my life in India and half of it in England. Being English is a very subjective term citizenship doesn't mean nationality it is a document to entitlements effectively. Which include representing the country you are a citizen off it is different to being 'Englsih' as you describe it.
There is no such thing as an English citizen. If you look at your passport you will see you are a citizen of The United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.I doubt very much if someone from Kosovo would be able to gain British citizenship within three months. If someone does become a British citizen then whether you like it or not they are as British as someone who was born here. You are British through an accident of birth just like myself. An immigrant becomes British because they choose to be.
I E . hang on a minute ! You have been here 12 months , passed written and verbal test and now you can represent MY country in sport ? Hows that work ? I am not talking about being born here . If you are born here you are english by default in my opinion . Its not in question . But to cook the books to make someone eligible to play for the national team is a friggin joke . In my opinion of course .
they were born in India and im sure would quite happy to play for India . We were part of the same Empire , I wouldnt want to play for Canada , or Australia , or India , or New Zealand . I am English and would aspire to play for England . Thats the stupid thing about JP . Why does he WANT to play for England ? If i were In his position it would not be an option for me . Patriotism is in your heart , not your passport or residence. Does anyone think that Gareth Bale would choose to play for England , even if it were possible .? Traitors to the country of their birth !
To follow on what Gooner said, I think Wilshere comes across as a ****ing idiot when he tried to clarify himself, mainly by saying this: 'We have to remember what we are. We are English. We tackle hard, are tough on the pitch and are hard to beat.' Seriously, what the **** are you on about Jack? WE ARE ENGLISH, INGERLANDDDDD INGERLANDDDDD. That's what it sounds like, and I'd like someone to remind me, how many international titles have the hard hitting tackling English won? Yeah, **** all....Most of the international tournaments that have been won were won by teams who possessed good technical skill and quality, and dazzled the world with their great play, as well as their opponents. If you want to know why England is never going to go anywhere in football, look no further than the mentality of Wilshere, and the fact that this idiot has been brought through Arsenal's ranks, and he's talking **** like this? Don't blame foreigners for Englands lack of quality, but blame English players and the backward English mentality of football for being unable to move forward....We all hate Stoke, but fact is, as Wilshere makes clear, the English mentality in football is akin to Stoke, WE'RE ENGLISH MATE, LET'S FOOKING TACKLE THEM AND GIVE IT TO EM!!!!!! INGERLANDDDDD INGERLANDDDDDDDD. Maybe we should sell Wilshere to Stoke if he wants to play for a hard tackling team, because when everyone thinks of Arsenal, they think of a technical quality team, just like Jack said about Spain, when you think of Spain you think good football etc, so if Wilshere doesn't want to be associated with that, but rather with a HARD TEAM then maybe he'd find himself more suited and happy to play for Stoke?
Indeed , you only have to go one bit further down that road , IE Zero talent but pure hard work .......and you become .... Scotland
Did John Barnes,Matt Le Tissier,Graham Le Saux,Tony Dorigo all earn your contempt ? Do the foreigners who play cricket for England earn your contempt ? Do the foreigners who play rugby for England earn your contempt ? Does No Farah earn your contempt ?
well its half time in the England match , what a waste of 45 minutes , im off down the pub , doest even warrant watching the second half. dull , dull , dull even the pundits cant make it sound interesting . Highlights ? good luck with that
Why, most teams who won it possessed great technical skill, not just being hard. And maybe back in the day playing hard would get success, but those days are long gone by as we've seen on both a club and national level.
Spain, Italy, Brazil and France have all won the world cup relatively recently. They're certainly all much better technically than England.
