England midfielder Tom Cleverley has been ruled out of the game with Montenegro tonight and Tuesday's clash with Poland.

The Manchester United man, who was not expected to be in Hodgson's starting XI, suffered a calf injury in training on Thursday and has now returned to his club for further treatment following a scan.

Ashley Cole was ruled out of the initial party earlier this week, with Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs called up in his place. Everton left-back Baines can expect to start at left-back against Montenegro in Cole's absence.

Montenegro coach Branko Brnovic will be forced to field a weakened side at Wembley on Friday night.

Captain Mirko Vucinic, centre-back Marko Basa and midfielder Miodrag Pekovic are all injured, and defender Miodrag Dzudovic is also doubtful.

Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic is available to play up front, despite recent fitness concerns which have hampered his Premier League career so far.

Oh no, Cleverly's out? If only there was a young, former U21 captain playing fantastic football this season - far better than most other English players, Gerrard included - who was in the squad to step in <whistle>

Vucinic is out? That's excellent news. Good player.

They have nothing to lose so it could be tricky.

    Going 3-1 England.

Welbeck wasted one great chance to pass to Sturridge and then an even better one for Townsend.

If he had half a brain he'd be a top footballer

  10. The Studge should have scored near the end of that half. Time and space in area and he was closer to the corner flag than goal <laugh>

Boring so far but least we're making chances. Need more width though as both Townsend and Welbeck are coming in field, neither Baines or Walker are the types to take their man on down the line (not that I'd encourage them considering the lack of cover)

Interesting to see Rooney and Welbeck showing their frustrations at each other

    All not well at Utd?

We have quick direct players, we need to run at them more imo

Baines has looked good, bet he's gutted that he's played in an era where Cole has been preferred to him the last 3 or 4 years. Baines has always been better going forward and probably isn't far behind defending now either.

Agree Sturridge should have scored from the corner, seemed to snatch at it.

Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney haven't done anything all game. Considering Walker is meant to be awesome going forward but suspect defensively, he's done nothing going forward at all, instead just passing the ball infield every time he gets it.

Overall, a standard England performance against a half decent team.

Watch us go snatch a 1-0 win so we can all go and enjoy being mediocre for a few more years <ok>

Studge should've hit the target a couple of times

    So should Welbeck & Rooney

    Baines doing well

Gerrard so so, not been in the game much as he?

Miss hit the target when it was cut back and done a few short passes. No tackles though

not really, bodies in front of him, but on target would have been better alright, he did slice it though, it happens.

Wellbeck has been the biggest failing, every chance he's took he had players in far better positions with Rooney missing practically an empty goal

Boring ****ey England. I never let myself get excited by them.

After every poor attempt at a major trophy we have all this talk about how things will change and it never does.
