My point being that Smug has ranted against the players only when it was obvious that all was not well on the pitch as well as behind the scenes and PDC's blame laying after the games was neither constructive or helpful. We can only guess at what really led to his departure. As you say the fans can have their say too.
If I'm honest, no I'm not happy. He wasn't my first choice and I still have niggling doubts. That said, he had been appointed by our club, his first interview was positive and he is obviously going to be balls out Sunderland. I wish him the best and will back him. Hopefully Short does too.
One thing we have all surely learnt of late is changing managers too often gets you nowhere. As much as relegation hurts like a good sturdy kick to your dangly bits this has to be a free season for Gus. From what I've seen our major malfunction aint the managers we have had at all. It's the players. For some reason SAFC seems to be thought of as a soft touch for players to grab as much as they can get for doing as little as possible.
Things haven't been good since the middle of last season mate and I have sort of seen someone who I've admired for a long time (O'Neil) torn to bits by these players, their attitude towards the club and their overall dedication to the cause. I could have wrote what smug has said a million times over but my life doesn't warrant my time on here to do it. Yes, I'm a Paulo Di Canio fan simply because he reflects my dedication to what he does and lives within, I am certainly no big fan of the get him out brigade. It's a new chapter now, lets see what Gus has to offer or what the twighlight zone may chuck at him too. It's time to stand proud, get behind the club and be a part of getting out of this mess..
Too right mate. Don't get me wrong, when they take to pitch I'm 100% behind them but some of them aren't out my bad books yet. Every player should get a clean slate with a new manager but us fans will judge their Sunderland career collectively and I haven't forget the many times they've driven managers out using lazy performances on the pitch. Quite happy to make the club as a whole suffer to get at a manager. They'd better knuckle down from now to the end of the season with no excuses. If we're gonna back Gus unconditionally with pride and honor then they can too.
To be honest, not sure what all the fuss is about really. I don't see what Poyet has that is special compared to any other one of the candidates for the job who had no premier league experience. I suppose you could say I am underwhelmed. I'm reserving judgment for now. I'll be happy when we've picked up a few wins, until then I refuse to get caught up in the enthusiasm - too many saviours have turned out to be duds.
I can understand this viewpoint, but there are plenty of our fans who seem to be writing him off before he has been given a chance..
Who is available (that would've made the fans happy) that has Premier League experience? This is a question I have asked the radio when Adrian Durham starts spouting his usual "I Hate Sunderland" ****e! There was no-one available that would've made the fans happy. Tony Pulis would've been a "boycoutt" moment for some. Steve McClaren (who I don;t think would've been a bad choice) had opinions split down the middle. Poyet is the new Rodgers from what my Brighton based mates have been saying - i.e. he plays good football to try to get results. Sometimes overdoes it but it's football rather than hoofball. Time will tell eh?
O'Neil wasnt torn to bits by the players. O'Neil's 1st major problem was not having his "wingman" (preferred 1st team coach) with him. The problems built up from there. Selling strikers before getting replacements in, spending big money on 2 players when we needed a lot more than 2, buying Graham..... Might as well blame the players for getting Roy Keane sacked especially as he had a higher win ratio than Bruce or MON managed to have We have no idea what went on between PDC and the players, so there is no point blaming either party.
a free/available agent? no idea. Hell, I dont even know a mananger currently employed by someone else who would have wanted the job and fit my expectations. If not premier league experience, then a a young manager from one of the top european leagues might have been a good gamble. last summer I would have said Martinez I didnt mean Poyet is a bad choice out of the ones available to us, but I just dont find him all inspiring. but hey, all managers need to start somewhere Poyet might turn out to be the best choice Short has ever made, I just wouldnt bet on it. He and the team have my 100% backing though.
You hit the nail on the head mate, there simply isn't such a manager available that would have ticked every box that us fans wanted ticking. Such a bloke just doesn't exist, unless of course you could temp SAF out of retirement. Poyet wasn't my first choice but I must admit, after hearing him talk and reading some of his press talks i'm impressed with him. We haven't kicked a ball in anger yet like and the jury is still out, I still think he was probably the pick of the bunch that were touted for the job.
To me he was torn to bits by the buggers not performing, don't mention Keane as I for a long time said the fans soon forgot the promotion year, the excitement and the fact that at the time he was brilliant for the club. Remember we were 3rd bottom of the championship when he joined and trudging out of Roots Hall the week before, we were in deep ****. I was half cut when I wrote this stuff the other night and was glad to see the thread disappear, saying that though being such an expert on Safc and living in France, you must spend some coin a year supporting them?
That was my first choice too but got my 2nd choice. Wasn't much between Poyet and Zola for my 2nd and 3rd choice like.
