So there it is, it seems that Henderson is off to Liverpool. That tells me all I need to know about Niall Quinn and Ellis Short. They are content to run a selling club. Despite all Niall's promises and invites onto magic carpet rides we still have to sell our top talent to teams who you know will make an effort to win the league and or trophies. Where does that leave us, what do we have to look forward to apart from a few crumbs from the top table and a yearly finger nail biting session. Like many on here I was fooled by Niall and his promises as I believed in the man but even he cannot resist the lure of the filthy lucre. What really brasses me off is the fact that I had already parted with my hard earned for next season only to find that one of our true talents is to be sold and to make matters worse we end up with a plank of a striker who we buy because he has a couple of decent performances against us. Looks like this may be my 40th and last season as I cannot see any point in pouring in money, heart and soul to an organisation that has limited ambition. As for those, and there are plenty of them, saying take the money and run he has his price or Colback is a ready made replacement I say why do you think Liverpool are prepared to pay the money, it's because they have what we don't, AMBITION.
or 75m to add to an already good team. can't believe your willing to stop watching, cos we sold a player, give bruce a chance to find replacements..
Bang on the money! Would Villa or Everton have rolled over and played fair so easily? The clubs we are aspiring to are gonna march ahead of us and for all those who laud Colbeck..... Wait til a bid comes in for him! The blueprint for failure was mapped out by Boro when they sold all the quality youngsters and replaced them with fat Egyptians.... Sound familiar?
Much as I hated Bent going and am also upset at Jordan saying tara, such is life. I have ambition to become a big club again, but we ARE NOT A BIG CLUB ANYMORE! Go back 50 years...... We have to build. As long as the money is used wisely.
Sure Everton sold stephen piernar for 3 million to spurs, and gosling went of a free to the toon because they were to slow, so hmm yes they would have done. why keep bringing Everton and Villa into this argument, they are or should be top 6-8 clubs and have been for a number of years, lets face it, we are not, can we be, yes of course, but atm we are far from it.
****ing boo hoo. £20M is a fair price and we can get 2-3 quality players in for that. At least players who'll do no worse than JH's second half of last season.
You do not know what happened behind the scenes. Henderson may have had his head turned by Liverpool and wanted to go. £20 million is a pretty decent price for a young player that many of your own fans have been unsure about. If the money from Henderson and Bent is reivested in players, then both sales could prove to be what enables you to push on to the next level. if the money is not spent on players, then you will have every reason to be pissed off.
why do these stars need to have there heads turned we should be able to hold onto these players if we realy want to be a big club we have to build build and build a squad t o challenge for honours not sell sell sell buid firs sell when required
It's not the player I object to it is the whole ethos of being a selling club lacking in ambition. I want players at Sunderland who are good enough to play for the top teams not players that the top teams are finished with. After 40+ years following Sunderland through thin and thinner I don't need any lessons in loyalty from anyone so if you cannot see how deeply I feel about us lacking the ambition to hang onto our best then perhaps you need to think a little more about my comments.
Sid- if it's true that we can get 2-3 quality players in for the 20m then I wonder why Liverpool have'nt done just that!!!!
Allowed the contracts to run down rather than roll over and have their tummies tickled. I'll be at the SOL nxt year and every yr, but Im not sure I'll ever buy into the magic carpet ****e again.
So the last 3 years have been thin, better postion, better points, to me this is progress as for Ambition IMHO we need to carry on building slowly, build a squad (this last season shows the need for a good squad), consolidate top ten then push on. Never wanted Hendo to go but will wait and see who we sign before the end of the Window.
I think £20 m is fantastic and when you think we have Elmo, sessegnon or Malbranque who can play in his position it is a good deal. Now for Pavlechenko, Charlie adam, Larsson and Nzogbia !, then the tall Birmingham defender Zigic i think they call him, and Carlton cole and Wes brown and they would be a good start for next season.
I know a true Sunderland supporter willing to take your ticket off you lets face it we don't want any negativity in the ground now do we. Supporters these days are so impatient June has not gone yet and there is plenty of time for Bruce and Quinn to sign plenty of players lets judge them once the season starts shall we.
but surely the magic carpet ****e is happening. When Quinn took over we were bottom of the Championship, since then we have went onto become a top 10 premier league team, stats dont lie we finished 10th, how we got there, doesnt really matter, we got there. We have been in the league now for 5 years, we are no longer a yo yo club to the rest of the world, we are building steadily, we have this new cant spend what we dont earn policy in place now, we cant just go and splash 50million on 1 player, and we have to sell to buy, like it or not, its what we have to do, last year 75% of our turnover went on wages, and we dont pay the players that much, compared to other clubs. So if liverpool or Man U come in with a bid and the offer of 60,000+ a week for a player, we cant really turn it down, we cant afford to pay players huge salaries, as we dont have the turnover to do so, its simple economics. And its only 1 player, he is not irreplacable, no one is at the club or any club for that matter.
