Well, since 2007 we've decided to stick with the same losing formula. Terry Ferdinand Gerrard Lampard Has been the spine of the side, all 'top class footballers' and the Captains and Vice Captains of their clubs. All ageing. None performing. I would rather not qualify for the next 4 World Cups if it meant we'd end up with a side who plays good football that we can all be proud of. As it stands we're just a side of has-been celebrities who'd rather play in a League Cup 4th round tie than a World Cup qualifier, because they're paid for it. It's not like we'll have a summer of no football. Euro 2008 was excellent
One word used to make me look forward to watching Ingerland games and that word was Scholes. The only player I think, who'd get anywhere near a world XI over the last 15yrs. As much as I admired his technical ability, he was a brilliantly intelligent team player. He understood he was a cog in a machine and raised the game of others around him. The successor to his throne appears to be Cleverley. If that's the case, then I wince at the thought of Ingerland's chances in the next couple of big tournaments. 2-0 win tonight. 1-1 v Poland.
I'm watching Moldova and San Marino at the minute. Surely that qualifies me as being in need of psychiatric help?
And the team is....Hart, Walker, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines, Gerrard, Lampard, Townsend, Rooney, Welbeck and Sturridge. He's really going for it. Edit - Sorry Hull City AFC (HCHKR), I missed that you'd already posted it.
Scholes annoyed me by retiring from England early. He was clearly our best midfielder, and the best since Gazza or Hoddle. No Wilshere? Surprising. Roy giving into peer pressure like the yes man he appears to be? Cahill and Jagielka together frighten the crap out of me, they look too unstable. Glad he picked Sturridge as well.
Agree strongly with Party's comments. Akcj - that bit about Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard and Gerrard is just typical cliché nonsense. They played for years because they were our best players. Just because we didn't win a tournament doesn't mean thosr players didn't perform. In fact you'd struggle to find a game John Terry didn't perform in and Gerrard has been excellent for England in the last couple of years. Townsend but no Wilshere is a weird choice but obviously one done for a reason.
