why not give him a new contract, paying him 90,000 per week, with a clause in it saying if he gets a total of over 20 or 25 combined assists & goals in all competitions next season it goes up to 110k for the remaining 4 years after that.

that way he proves his worth over the next season, shows that this season wasn't just a fluke, and has justified his money.

It still amazes me how much some people blindly follow what the rags print as Gospel. The only words that Nasri has spoken are to say that 'contract negotiations are ongoing' and that 'don't believe what you read in the newspapers' and yet the OP and others would have him strung up as a traitor. <doh>

If money is a factor (and it usually is) Narsi could easily earn £100k at another club, so like it or not, we need to match that to keep hold of him. He is too important to lose.

I'm not buying that, he was he one who didn't rule out going to man utd. I think that if a player doesn't want to be linked with a move away then they won't, this is all just contract games and trying to get the most money they can from us.

He is just backtracking so the fans don't turn against him more than they already have done.

he's not even backtracking. he's just said he hasn't made up his mind, which is what he said in the interview. this twitter post has revealed nothing.

I always said Nasri had a face that needs punching. How right have I been?

Re. the tweet earlier the message is quite clear- don't believe everthing you read/hear in the press <doh>
I didn't imply it was any sort of revelation, but more of wait & see what happens before calling for his head. If he stays and all these stories turn out to be untrue, there are going to be a lot people on here looking rather silly (or even more silly in some people's cases).

i understand your point MissBergkamp...but this is a direct quote from Nasri we're talking about, not media speculation.

He said, and I quote: "I don't know if I will sign a new contract. Do I want to go to Man Utd? We should see if it's real & if it is concrete."

that can't turn out to be "untrue," as it came from his very own mouth.

Fair comment Bonstar- I think the "I don't know" part is the most telling, in the same way I don't know if I'll be working for my current company come August. If a new opportunity comes my way, I won't be thinking "I should be loyal to my current employer" and turn it down. His contract is almost up, he has the right to explore other options, if he so chooses. I personally would be sad to see him go, but all this clap-trap about loyalty to the club is nonsense, we all know (or at least we should by now) in the modern game such a thing rarely exists.

Face it, everything Nasri (your best player) has said and done has made it patently clear that he is merely waiting for Whinger to cave in on whatever price is being haggled over with SAF.

SAF will want him for £15 million, Whinger will want £25 million, and a deal will be struck at £20 million.

I don't know if SAF will stump up the extra funds, but what we all know is this. If Nasri ends up being stuck at Arsenal for another disappointing season, you are going to have a very disgruntled and de-motivated player on your hands (just as you did with Fabregas last season). I think it would be worth your taking the £15 million, just to get rid of a lame duck.

    What do you all reckon?

Perhaps you should face the fact that another year without Champions league football will almost certainly signal the end for Van Der Vaart, Bale and Modric.

    The point is
"I don't know if I will sign a new contract."

That's a perfectly acceptable thing to say, and fans wouldn't been lambasting him if he'd stopped there.

    He then says
"Do I want to go to Man Utd? We should see if it's real & if it is concrete."

    Therein lies the problem.

    Exactly!

What he's really saying is "should United come in for me - which is what I am hoping and praying for to get me out of this place - I will be off like a shot and you won't see my disloyal arse for dust!"

I can fully understand your anger. Now you know how we felt about Berbatov.

    Hey! Don't shoot the messenger!

I know my words hurt, but it's not me who's angling for a lucrative deal with United.

he's angling for a deal with Arsenal. there's no way he'll go to United. if he leaves, it'll be to go abroad.

I'd be more concerned as a spuddie that Modric will end up at Utd, now there is a player stuck in a dead end team.
