He's been giving his opinion at something called the Leaders in Football Conference held at charming Stamford Bridge. Slagging off the idea of a Commission into improving the England team because, to paraphrase, he has 'grown out of democracy' and thinks we need a 'totalitarian' figure to lead and make all the decisions. Not sure if he was volunteering for the role. I sincerely hope he was only talking about football. Its on SSN if you don't trust me as an objective reporter.
Here's the video............ enjoy...
Just watched the video Stan, and he is just talking about football, thankfully. I think he would be entertaining company.
Handled himself well, I enjoyed watching that. Cheers Nines. More worried they had picked John Arne Riise, not the sharpest tool let me put it that way. Makes Joey look like Einstein next to him.
Me too Stroller. I have no problem seeing the positive effect he can have on our group of players at the moment.
QPR's Joey Barton in four letter blast at Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Jack Wilshere QPR midfielder Joey Barton has blasted the current crop of England stars and believes the newly-formed Football Association commission is a waste of time. Share 4 By Gary Jones/Published 10th October 2013 QPR midfielder Joey Barton Speaking at the Leaders in Football conference at Stamford Bridge, the outspoken one time capped player poked fun at the quality of the team as well as the 10-man commission formed in a bid to improve their fortunes going forward. "The England team are s*** at the minute," said Barton. "How long do we have to talk about how bad it is? I mean this commission thing - and it was an issue with me straightaway. What's the point? official I am an extremist and I am at this phase in life where I am struggling with democracy. I don't think it works. I think we need a totalitarian figure, who knows what he wants and goes with it because at least he is accountable. "It is quite a smart move if you're Greg Dyke because now you have put eight other people in front of you to deflect the criticism when it no doubt comes your way when we fall short at the next World Cup, the next European Championship. Roy Hodgson's men are back in action on FridayRoy Hodgson's men are back in action on Friday “The England team are s*** at the minute” QPR midfielder Joey Barton "The Premier League have made a smart move in terms of isolating themselves. Why would you want to be a part of it when you've got such a great product? "I just don't get it, the commission. I don't get it. The whole point of hiring Greg Dyke surely was because he knows what he is doing or at least has got an idea? "At least have the balls to stand up and say 'this is what I want to do, this is how I want to do it' "Don't turn around and say 'I am going to bring nine other people from all different fields of the game and hopefully we'll make a group decision'. It is never going to work." "The FA's responsibility is to care about English football. They have no power apart from banning players and stuff."
Yeah, no problems with that, conducted himself well. Wonder if the Phil he referred to a couple of times was Phil Beard.
Joey Barton is a legend.................................. in his own lunchtime! Here's a guy who has always believed that he should be in the England team. Whatever you think about the team over the years, Barton ahead of Gerrard etc? Comical!
Its time to get Joey a tv program of his own.....I laughed when he talked about one of our reserve players flashy girlfriend on the sideline of the pitch!
i think he has had a long time to look at himself this summer. we all thought as well as himself, he would be bought by someone if not mersile. that must have been very humbling lets hope this new joey barton is here to stay as i think he can be a great player when he works at it.
Barton has lived now in the South of France has a big gob and a new baby ... more importantly always has a opinion I respect and fully understand that My issue with Barton was always that he wasn't the player he thought he was but currently he tops the list as our best performer in my book as Henry is dropped ... The man is hughly responsible for our current good team spirit and credit where it is due I have loads of time for JB off the pitch and his game on it is surprising me Our own opinions shape themselves over time and experiences Nothing is nothing without personality
Sounds like he is maturing (a little), very funny to listen to, and respect his opinions. That maturity is showing on the pitch as well, agree with all DT says.
Certainly more stimulating than Harold's good old boy soundbites. He's a sharp lad, no denying it and is working hard on himself, building in some self-deprecation. And he's right about England too, plus the commission is likely a waste of time. And video (an obviously light hearted affair) compared to the press reports is a brilliant example of how things get twisted. Don't get carried away though Flanners, not comparable to my ****ing brilliant reportage on that other thread - I just highlighted something Harold's ghost writer scribbled down, which is a bit different. Trouble with Barton is the image of him kicking Aguerro in the back of the leg which I just can't get out of my head.
Just so long as you don't get on his bad side. And if you do, just make sure there's no lit cigars lying around.
