In fairness, they've got bugger all else to crow about - although I do appreciate the newly painted turnstiles did create an unusually higher level of excitement that has been witnessed for many decades <ok>

I liked the comments underneath the article - more to do with Norwich and our recent statement of accounts than ways to take 1p5wich forward <laugh>

    In particular:

If my little chest puffed out any more with pride...I'd probably burst! <yikes> <ok>

if the comments on the eadt or green'un are anything like the edp or pinkun then they were probably written by norwich fans pretending to be ipswich fans anyway. god only knows why people do that... <doh>

To be fair, Mick is talking about sets of fans who believe they have a divine right to a place in the prem, which the majority of our fans don't get into (obviously there will be a few). Mick is just saying that we can see progress is happening and we are happy if it doesn't happen this season, just as long as progress is being made to stabilise the team and improvements added as and when.

I think we can all agree that both of our clubs have a good fan base in terms of behaving, and we are very lucky in that sense.

We do, and there is no argument there <ok>

Have to wonder why it all kicks off when the two meet for a game.

i was just about to say that had we been in the same division the statistics would have been a lot more disappointing. i think ipswich had 37 arrests at the last derby alone didn't they? they were absolute morons - loads of people couldn't get in for kick off (i was lucky enough to get straight in) and missed the first couple of goals. a small group of ipswich fans tarnished the club that night, that's for sure

oh dear - someone's nerve has been well and truly touched. what a pathetic response.

of course both sets of fans are normally as bad as each other when it comes to derby day and in the grand scheme of football violence and trouble feature way, way down the list, but that particular night was the one i highlighted and it was ALL ipswich (and ALL norwich on the pitch of course). i'm sure you've plenty of examples where the boot was on the other foot but that thursday evening it was a genuinely uncomfortable atmosphere outside the ground and was not handled well. the trouble seemed to be caused by idiotic teenagers who thought they were 'big and clever'. many of our fans were unable to get into the ground after being cornered. i and others watched a woman in a city shirt get punched in the back of the head. we had bricks, coins, lighters and rubble thrown our way and little protection from the authorities so unless you think we were attacking ourselves i suggest you think before you post.

your fans certainly made a quick getaway after the game though <laugh>

Supers in all my 40 odd years of following Town and watching old Farm Derby's I have seen things from both sets of 'Supporters' or Hooligans that would make your hair stand on end! At Carrow Road and in Ipswich Town Centre. You have chosen to single out just one incident when you should really be qualifying that with the fact that BOTH sets of followers have done wrong in the past! 1992 We beat you at Carrot Rud and prevented you from going top of the Prem and afterwards I was whacked in the back of the head with a bike chain! My younger brother was kicked to the ground.

Truth is that there are ignorant thugs on both sides <ok>

i chose to single out that incident because a) it was the most recent game between the sides, b) it is quite fresh in the memory and c) it was the worst trouble i can remember since a friday night game at the portaloo late 90s - tarrico scored the winner i think, can't remember a lot else about the game apart from being chased away from the ground by nutters, one of whom was then 'savaged' by a police dog - i'll never forget it. i'm not for a moment trying to suggest it was anything as bad as 'the bad old days' but it was still pretty shocking and on this occasion, all one way traffic. i could highlight a game also in the late 90s at carrow road (another friday night game) where i saw two norwich fans attack an elderly ipswich fan. as you say, it happens on both sides - i was merely highlighting that the results of the survey would probably have been different, possibly considerably, had there been a derby. i'm not suggesting one set are worse than the other or incriminating every single fan. its a minority but it is there, under the surface.

honestly mate, i wasn't picking on ipswich fans! it's just that was the last time we played you and it was pretty shocking stuff considering they hadn't been too bad over the previous five or six years, so when ipswich fans get 'heralded' for their behaviour (quite rightly last season) then it is a bit daft not to mention the fact that there was no derby game. they bring the worst out in some people.
