OK, continuing with the theme of the last two subjects, poetry and Rome... In the first century B.C., which poet addressed two of his critics, another poet Furius and a senator Aurelius, in a poem considered so vulgar and obscene that it was not translated outside of Latin until the 20th century.
Based on some scanty research I'll go for Catullus, but not with much confidence. Only one rude verse that I could see, I know the Romans could be much more explicit than this.
I was quite taken aback when I saw a poem by Gaius Valerius Catullas. I would of pasted it on here but it would probably be inappropriate. I've recently been reading about Rome and its inhabitants and Emperor Claudius’ third wife, Valeria Messalina is quite a colourful character. Your honour Stan.
Robert Harris' novels about the Roman Republic Imperium and Lustrum are very good as is Pompeii and most of his stuff, with the notable exception of The Fear Index which is absolute crap about a computer programme. What would you do at a Sento?
I know this answer but shall allow somebody else to have a go. I agree with you re. Robert Harris, he's last few offerings have been disappointing for me. The Fear Index I found awful and couldn't finish it. ( Very rare for me. ) I also thought that 'The Ghost' was a bit weak too, Fatherland is his best along with the three you mention above.
Talking of Sento's has reminded me of this very short Italian film. It's only 7 minutes long, but what is amazing is that is made using only photographs. Oh, and the actress is rather easy on the eye too.
Thats a really interesting little film Nine, and she is a classic Italian beauty....but the use of sento a little red herring. My rusty Italian translates the title as "I hear the night', but our absent friend Imaz would be able to correct me.
Polo is probably right, but I think Jai Alai may also fall into the category, although whether it is a sport or an elaborate gambling scam is another question.
Polo it is. In order to avoid dangerous collisions left handed play is forbidden. Over to you Stroller.
OK, in another thread I referred to the sad coincidence of rock stars who died aged 27. Who is an unconfirmed member of this group?
Continuing with music-related questions, in 1983 Michael Jackson released 'Thriller', the video that revolutionised that genre and was by some distance the most expensive ever production, however, before 'Thriller' what was up to then the most expensive music video production?...
