Newcastle top of the league : Top 5 Premier League arrests 1. Newcastle United 175 2. Manchester United 145 3. Manchester City 95 4. Chelsea 92 5. Sunderland 71 More Newcastle United fans were arrested at football matches during the 2012-13 season than any other club, according to Home Office statistics. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24476130 shameful reflection of the North East IMHO
Only 104 more than us. We can't say we've been shameful as the BBC have neglected to give us any comparison. We're way less than Chelsea and no clue whatsoever to how many the team below us. For all we know 71 is average. It also doesn't take into account the tolerance levels of individual police forces. BBC are ****e. A chance to paint an informative picture and coloured it grey.
breakdown of the figures are here : https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...740/Football_Arrest_BO_Statistics_2012-13.pdf
Just done an average on the 2,456 arrests across 20 clubs wiched worked out at 122.8 arrests per club. looking at the top 4's arrest statistics suggests to me that 71 arrests will be closer to the rest of the league then it is to Chelsea's 92. So in essence in order to put us in at number 5 fairly they should included the arrests for all teams or just show the top 4 which are exceptionally high compared to the rest of the league. I'd love to see the full table (just to see if i'm right.) I suggest the BBC added our statistics in order to drop the blame with north east football.
Cheers fella. Checking the figures we're at the top off the second group as the figures seem to split into 4 groups of figure areas Newcastle United 175 Manchester United 145 Manchester City 95 Chelsea 92 Sunderland 71 West Ham 67 Arsenal 53 Villa 51 Everton 44 Liverpool 36 Stoke 32 Spurs 32 Southampton 23 The rest from 18 down to 9 arrests We haven't covered ourselves in glory but it hardly warrants the national shame that article places on us imo.
But with Man u averaging about 76,000 the mags about 50 k and us about 40,000 it is bound to high up, but are Millwall top overall ?. and we miss out on a hooligan champions league place !.
Newcastle will have got most of their arrests after the derby when they decided to trash their own city.
The injuries to animals table makes better reading for us, but pretty much the same story for the mags.
So, less than 2 per game. Hardly the 1970s is it. And assuming that all the arrests are home games averaging 40,000 a gate, thats 1 in every 10,704 fans. Hardly earth shattering. You can fix any statistic to suit your story.
Was just going to say that regarding the 5 race related arrests. As late as the 90s I recall many a racial group chants by both Sunderland and visiting fans. Really impressed at how taboo racism is in football today and long may it continue.
These stats are as you'd expect, 5 of the 7 highest attendance clubs = more people likely to be arrested.
Exactly... And most of the arrests we be for next to f*ck all... A bit wobbly and boisterous after an ale or 12!?
