http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24449811 Are City bucking the foreign invasion trend? Against Newcastle in the match day squad we had we had: 8 English (if you include Aluko) 2 Scots 4 Irish 1 N Irish Phenomenol really, don't believe Newcastle had a UK national on the pitch, surely we should provide an England International soon?
Without being arsed to look it up, who is Northern Irish for us? I cant think. And if Aluko's sister is English then that's good enough for me.
No, we're not bucking the trend. It's only a handful of teams who have very few/ no British & Irish players in their squads. And we've only played a handful of games so far this season. We have to wait for a more sustained success than this for any of our players to get an England call up.
Good stuff. Many foreigners are no better than what we have now so why will SB change it in the future. I want the best we can get @ Hull City regardless of where they come from. Shame we cannot find a few more Liam Rosenior's with his desire and attitude to add to what we have now.
I might get slated for this but I fear for Rosey. He was possibly the worst player on the pitch against Villa. His defending was suspect and his distribution laughable. Another couple of performances like that and I wouldn't be surprised if SB looked at strengthening the right back slot come January.
Hopefully he tries and signs the Leeds lad Byram. Many people say he's a step above everyone when Leeds play.
Well I think it's intentional by Bruce. He obviously tried a couple foreigners... but he also thought if no one is going for the irish and english youth then I might as well!
He only included the British and Irish players... Notice that 8+2+4+1=15. Match day squads have 18. So there were 3 'foreigners' in the squad.
I have solved the problem - there were only three ROI players in the Newcastle squad, not four. Quinn, Brady and Meyler.
I don't have the stats (I'm sure someone will) but I imagine when we got promoted last time PB bought a number of foreigners - geo, the gypsy winger, the crazy full back, cousin - there'll be others Maybe SB will continue to buck the trend....
Yes did put down Mcshane instead of Proswhitz, point I was making was that whilst the 14 players we used that day were all British or Irish, I don't believe Newcastle had one start or come on as sub who was from these isles. Given yesterday's stats re british players playing in the premier league, I think we are bucking the trend, it's one of the reasons Huddlestone came here.
I think because he was 2 against 1 for a lot of that match when Villa were attacking. He had Ben Arfa in his back pocket at Newcastle, and I think it was just because of the speed of play (he does have Faye alongside him) that he found the Villa match difficult. BUT, we came away with another clean sheet. I agree about his distribution though, ever since joining us, it's evident that he cannot cross a ball for toffee.
