Really? You surprise me.........well it could just be the greatest 20th Century poem, The Wasteland by TS Eliot. Johnny Clarke did borrow one of his lines to end his own epic Psycle Sluts ('The lean, leonine, leatherette lovelies of the North Circular')......'the burger joint around the bend, where the meals thank Christ are skimpy - for you that's how the world could end, not with a bang but with a Wimpy' (cf The Hollow Men TS Eliot).

" the greatest 20th Century poem, The Wasteland by TS Eliot"

Yes, your answer is correct , but I would have to argue about it being the greatest 20th Century poem!
It was the greatest waste of my life whilst studying it for A Level English Literature.
The only way I can describe the construction of the poem was that Eliot had put on a blindfold in a library and randomly walked around the bookshelves picking up a book, opening a page and then pointing to a line on the page which a scribe wrote down for him and then repeated the process until they both got bored!!!

Tried reading it again 25+ years later and it still made no sense!!

You did well toget to A level mate, I disagreed so strongly with the way that English Literature was taught that I refused to read the texts (Pygmalion, Macbeth, Lord of the Flies and the war poets if I remember correctly) for my O level. Still managed a D though. What an arrogant tit I was, and probably still am. The Wasteland does take a bit of effort though, to put it mildly. On second thoughts, I really do prefer John Cooper Clarke.

Lets stay with epic poetry though.. Who, along with Satan, resides at the very centre of the Ninth Circle of Hell according to Dante? It will be a shock to many on here to learn that Mark Hughes is not one of them.

I had the Kon-Kiki Expedition until they realised it wasn't on the syllabus.

I think I started it anew every lesson & still didn't get past the first page! Thank God for Laurie Lee & Cider With Rosie.

As it would appear that only clever clogs Stan knows I've looked it up

    Level 9 - Cocytus
This is the deepest level of hell, where the fallen angel Satan himself resides. His wings flap eternally, producing chilling cold winds that freeze the thick ice found in Cocytus. The three faces of Satan, black, red, and yellow, can be seen with mouths gushing bloody foam and eyes forever weeping, as they chew on the three traitors, Judas, Brutus, and Cassius. This place is furthest removed from the source of all light and warmth. Sinners here are frozen deep in the ice, faces out, eyes and mouths frozen shut. Traitors against God, country, family, and benefactors lament their sins in this frigid pit of despair.

Indeed so, although apparently they weren't dressed from beak to foot in armour but made enough noise when the Gauls attacked to raise the alarm.
