So if you're living in abject poverty, simply kill your child. Your punishment? Better living accomodations, TV, games, crafts, library at our resort in the English countryside, meals, bathing, bed, en suite. Full board at no expense to you and, just in case you value freedom, you're back out again in just 5 years.

Oh, and to cap it all off - if you fancy having another child, simply find a bloke. You dont need to even be interested in them, as the CPS and Government will give you a stack of money so you don't have to work. No house? No problem - we'll set you up for free.

Is there some point when we realise that simply expecting people to live good, honest lives isn't quite enough?

She should have done her full term in jail. I'm astounded that she's out early.

 

She will be targeted when she is released, theres no way people would stand for her walking free after what went on. The other 2 blokes involved have done worse and rightly so remain in jail.

I am not saying its right that she is targeted but would anyone actually give one **** if she was "accidentally" hit by a bus.

 

At the very, very least the rancid bag should be sterilised. This is the biggest thing for me - we allow the scum to reproduce, almost always on a large scale. How this creature is essentially allowed to do it again is beyond me.

 

Ever considered putting a general thread page on this website? Politics, current affairs, etc.? Seems silly to isolate a news-related post just to intelligent geordies (and Jim/Fred/Bruce).

The rules governing society are incredibly naive, but I admire it, in an entirely perverted way of course.

Imagine a woman who has her heart in the right place, who dates guys she thinks are the one, only to be consistently used and abused. Now, as a friend you'll probably get annoyed and frustrated with her getting herself in the same situation, but as an outsider you have to admire the courage and ultimate good in her convictions.

The same can be said of our justice system, I think. It is broken in parts, of course, but it does aspire to recognise the good in people and help them rather than instigate "eye for an eye" punishment. What kind of societal evolution would revert to that?

Any system anybody else will describe in opposition to the current one will inevitably involve necessary evil, because it's required to combat badness. Badness is inherent in the genetic make-up of the population, so until we all become clones or chemically induced perfect citizens, we would have to have a constant stream of evil supporting the system. Let's say we advocate killing someone for their crimes... The person doing the killing of these criminals is in dangerous moral territory juxtaposed with a "perfect system". What if we build a machine that does it instead? Well then the person or people responsible for building it fall on the wrong end of the paradox. And the same is true of any number of alternatives, from steralization, to "genuine" life imprisonment etc etc.

I don't wish to be purely liberal about it, merely identify the objective good we're aiming at, compared with the other options at least. It's clearly controversial, but opportunity for repentance and genuine change seems applaudable to me. Now I'm not advocating early release or trying to step on toes, because I do think prisoners have too many rights and the balance is skewed too far in their favour, I just ultimately think that it's better than having mob mentality rule, as "justice" wouldn't be served in that circumstance either.
