But I think that he is right, nobody could have turned it round. You have to have self belief to do the job otherwise you wouldn't even try. The problem is when you wake up and realize that you can't turn **** into gold ... and we were full of ****. Not even SAF or JM could do that. The only thing to do is shovel the **** and start again, which he is doing.
A really good read, and it's good to get Redknapp's perspective on it all. I can't imagine how stressful that experience must have been for him. I think we can safely assume the loanee's won't be returning and in my opinion it's the best thing for this club. Unfortunately for me Taarabt has tarnished all the brilliant memories he gave us with this pi** poor attitude he's always had. Goodbye and good riddance. This is timely reminder of just how well Redknapp has done in a short space of time. I'll hold my hands up and say I believed he didn't have the stomach for it this season and was as critical as anyone on this board of him, but credit where it's due and he has my full support going forward.
That's when he started saying that the players weren't good enough, rather than some of them had **** attitudes.
Ha! By trade I'm a builder but that hasn't stop people calling me a butcher, self included. My work motto is .................. I may be slow but boy, am I rough ........... and expensive ......... and old. Apart from that, I think I'm great value for money
I firmly believe he had the ability to turn it around but channeled too much of his energy into exasperation at some players. At some point, maybe even from day one, he decided that we weren't going to stay up and instead of single-mindedly pursuing that goal he threw his hands up and gave up. After our back to back wins we had a real chance of survival but the will wasn't there from top to bottom. Anyway it's all water under the bridge now; I really wish this book hadn't come out at this time.
Not really. He was supposed to be the great motivator, but he failed. So, rather than admit his own inadequacies, he said the players were no good anyway. Whatever anyone thinks about Bosingwa, you couldn't say he was a poor player. HR has done a good job this season (assisted by McLaren), but he should have kept quiet about last season until he had retired.
I don't think that there is anything we did not already know or suspected but nice to get it confirmed. He has clearly had enough of Taarabt's unprofessional attitude so hopefully Fulham or some other mugs will take him off our hands. Interesting that he admits that Samba was a big let down and was probably relieved that we managed to sell him on for what we paid for him so no real great loss. Perversly, I wonder if Barton is his greatest ally now as Joey strikes me as the kind of person who will tell the other players how it is and smash some balls if they dont have the correct attitude.
After what I read about Clint's point of view, that fully supports Harry's recount. Yes, no doubt Bos**** is a good footballer, but he was an over-paid waste of space, whoever/whatever set his mind, to not give a flying f*** about putting in the hard yards for QPR; his mind appeared set before Harry came in. Same for many others. I have gone into companies where there is a terrible attitude, and poor work ethic, that doesn't change overnight, peoples initial reaction, is you are like the previous management, and they remain unconvinced, despite what you say. Its only through hard graft and persistence, that you turn them around. I think you too readily give McLaren too much credit.
"I overestimated my ability to turn it round". This is the closest we are likely to get to an admission that HR should share some of the blame for last year.
I still don't understand why Harry continued to play the Sainted Jose. In this article he slates him from when he joined Rangers but still kept putting him on the pitch. I can't accept the argument that we had nobody else to play there as Harriman was available as well as Dyer. Come to that the under 16's right back would have been a better option. So Harry, I ask, why did you still play the "rotten eggs" rather than experiment for this year, especailly as you said that it was impossible to stay up with that dresing room?
a lot has been said about the dressing room last season, which makes me bring up what I saw on Saturday at cc. I had a really fanastic view from the t.v gantry, just above m.h and the bench, adel cames over before the game and greets m.h, no handshake a full on hug and smile as though just been reunited with long lost pal. it made me feel sick,
Of course Harry was the manager on the last day of the season, therefore he failed in his objective, when he came in, that was to keep us up. But if the attitude in the dressing just doesn't give a **** and a great number refuses to change their mind, the blame (according to personal opinion) will be split between owners, manager, and players. I believe there are a great number of players, in the modern game, who dont put in effort commensurate with the money they are paid. But the turnaround this season, significantly better than I expected. So my personal opinion, is "that" group of players, in which we had (a reasonable) expectation would keep us in midtable, should take a significant proportion of the blame. EDIT: "players should take a significant proportion of the blame" with MH taking taking the majority.
The classic for me was that he takes little triangular pills but doesn't know what they are for?. HE FAILED knowing what the task was and was getting highly paid to keep us up ... still he has worked it his way and credit where its due we are doing well.... If he go up his power at QPR will be massive and as I have said he will sign some big names. We will be signing 15M players i just now it ... There's a risk after this that he will be wanted else where. Taarabt, Remy, Granero and the others are all now the villains and Harold is clean ... simply put he isn't but if he gets us up then we are back and I believe we will stay up ... why because we will spend spend spend. will our current team survive in the Prem? ... well they are good enough to be in the mix but I think we will buy at least 8 big names
