after picking up a single point from their opening 7 games."

Buckle up chaps, we are in for a bumpy ride.
We all know that though. That's why we don't support Man U, Arse, Chelski etc.

    Ha'way the lads

Records are there to be broken. You won't be going down in my opinion. You are too good for the drop.

Nobody has ever had an opening run of 8 home games as hard as ours either.

I absolutely DO believe 100% we wont go down. We are in for a struggling season for sure and Poyet wont be expected to pull trees up this season but with 31 games to go and 93 points to play for, of course we can stay up and those teams that have not managed it will not have had players with the ability of Giacherinni, Cattermole, Fletcher, Ki, Gardner, Roberge, Diakite, JOS, Johnson (who despite some critics I feel has improved a helluva lot this season) and an assemble of players that can graft and fight their way to safety. I think Altidore gives his all for the club and when he gets one will get a few goals - its all just a confidence thing and a settled manager and new direction will be just the tonic they all need. We have a lot of experience and decent players to get behind and forget what has gone before.

Look backwards and we may as well kiss the EPL goodbye now. Look forward and we CAN DEFINITELY stay up.

Did you watch the press conference today with Poyet mate. Very confident and assured young man and yet you get the feeling there is a steely determination in there and someone who is absolutely relishing the challenge. He is under no illusions as to the size of it but in no way did he seemed daunted by it. I know there is an air of inevitability in these press things but I was genuinely impressed by how he spoke and his demeanor. I think his confident but classy persona will rub off on the players.

When the defence get sorted and Fletcher comes back we will get 10 wins and 9 draws. Stoke, Palace and Norwich will finish below us.

Sunderland’s new boss Guy Poyet will be given funds to drag his side off the bottom of the league in January.

The Telegraph has reported that the 45-year-old agreed a two year contract on Monday to take over from Paolo Di Canio after the fiery Italian was sacked over two week’s ago with his side propping up the Premier League.

    Sackings

Owner Ellis Short, who has now sacked Steve Bruce, Martin O’Neill and Paolo Di Canio since 2009, has conceded that top flight football for the North-East side is an “absolute necessity”.

However, Poyet has promised by the American that he will have money to spend in January but after Poyet’s predecessor spent £30 million bringing in 14 new players last summer, how much money remains to be seen.

    Objectives

Poyet’s sole objective for this year is to keep the Black Cats in the top flight as Sunderland are bottom of the league and have not won in six months, dating back to last season.

It will be a tough ask for the former Brighton manager as no club has ever avoided the drop after picking up a single point from their opening seven league games.

Despite all the pressure, Poyet, who is taking on his first job in England’s top tier, will introduce a progressive, passing football, working with Roberto De Fanti, who was installed as Director of Football in the summer.

It's in black and white...It must be true. If it's not I'll be amazed.

    - The last team to have one point from their opening 7 PL games (like Sunderland) & survive were Newcastle in 1999-2000.
