I wonder if people will STILL believe the on-pitch team talk didnt have a negative impact on morale? Of course at the time the players said it didnt but what were they going to say? "We were all ****ing livid at being embarrassed in front of tens of millions of tv watchers"? I spoke to a number of players at the time and they were livid but people still swallowed the party line to this day.

It's as if two separate myths have been established:

1 That it didn't have a negative impact. (Yeah, right.)

2 That it began the slide. (Yes, the slide that had begun two months earlier - City's previous 9 games had ended LLLDDDWDL.)

From memory though, until this game werent we unbeaten away? That was our strong point, against the norm for a promoted side we were good away and ****e at home up until then and that carried us through. After this point we were ****e both home and away.

Well you could say we only had 1 defeat in 6 games before the Man City match...

I didn't care then if it was disrespectful to the players and I don't care now. Phil Brown was right to show the fans that travelled, that he was not happy with players who went OTT at Christmas. It backfired and yes it was embarrassing, but the players were out of order and the point was made.

Phil Brown had his failings as a manager we all know that, but lets not forget the clashes that the players had. The way that Nick Barmby reacted to the cliques in the team. It was not like now.

Now we have a manager who does not stand nonsense on or off the pitch. Players who we are not hearing or reading rumours about. I know that the players are not all angels, but they honestly give the impression that they are descent blokes.

I liked Ash as a player, but never really understood him as a person.

You might well be right and it might be taht they're behaving, but I have ALWAYS been of the opinion that you dont hear rumours when things are going well and all of a sudden they appear when teams are struggling.

Well yeah, he's got a point. If you're winning you're happy and if you're losing youre p1ssed off. If Sunlan had beaten Fulham on day 1, which they couldve easily done, then I bet we'd have heard nowt about PDC's mentalness.

I relate to the pitch team talk because in my first job I was bollocked in front of staff and customers. Its embarrassing, confidence takes a knock and you lose trust in your boss.

The thing I didn't get about is it was one of only two or three bad games in the first 20. It wasn't if it was lack of effort.

IMO Phil Brown lost the plot and started to believe tge hype.

Yep, as I said Im pretty sure it was the first away defeat ON BOXING DAY which is an incredible feat for a promoted team.

The players can say what they like. Brown gave the players Xmas off. They weren't in for Xmas day training and he advised them that they should take it easy on Xmas day. I don't think they actually travelled to a hotel on Xmas day. They repaid him with a disgraceful first half 4-0 down at half time. I don't condone him for what he did but it was understandable because they shat all over him. Not only that but there was no public transport on Boxing Day and all those supporters made the effort to get there, for what. I know where I stand on this and if the players did nt like it perhaps they should have looked in the mirror at themselves and the way they shat on Brown and the supporters. And the dip in form had started when we lost 4-1 at home to Sunderland after coasting the first half. It went from bad to worse after that so it had nothing to do with this incident despite all the bollocks in the press.

You mean the captain of the team talking.

The players were poor no doubt. But Browns system was also found out, giving Robinho the full left side to himself to run at Mendy was suicidal.

They lost at Old Trafford on 1 November. Granted, it was a pretty heroic 4-3 defeat, but an away defeat nonetheless.

Would it have made a difference if PB had delivered the reality check in the dressing room instead of on the pitch?

No, not really. A bollocking is a bollocking is a bollocking.

It's the media who have enlarged this minor quirk into some watershed moment in our history, as they have nowt in the 'Hull City' file to go at.

When Steve Bruce did a minor skip of delight at Newcastle when we scored the 3rd the other week, it became a MOTD talking point, something to contrast with Phil Brown's singing etc.

    Madness.

And Steve Bruce knows it, but plays it all down gently, playing the media game.

As for our decline around Xmas time, Garcia & Folan's lack of ability at that level probably didn't help our cause in the wake of Marlon King's exit and moody Cousin's lazy sulk.

All hail Phil Brown- still our best manager, hopefully eclipsed in May 2014.....
