He does come up with them from time to time, doesn't he? There are a few points that article touches on that other comments on this forum have got me thinking about - whether Schumacher was "an obvious candidate" or whether F1 was reeling from the death of Senna and felt compelled to find a new legend; how far Hamilton fits into the one-trick pony category of other British champions (Mansell and the massive superiority of the FW14B, Hill with Schumacher having joined an uncompetitive Ferrari, Hamilton with Alonso in an uncompetitive Renault and Raikkonen in an uncompetitive mindset, and Button against an uncompetitive Ferrari and McLaren and a still fragile Red Bull); and how last year's championship contenders are dealing this year with Vettel's dominance.

Would've been a lot simpler to have created a new thread straight up. I see a lot of the comments on there have descended into the usual bickering seen between fans everywhere but here. ;)

I think Vettel is the best in the world on current form, he's been fast and faultless for the last ten grands prix, including four under immense pressure at the end of last year. Ultimately I think there's very little to split the three of them though, they're all quick and talented and their merits far outweigh their faults. I'd put Kubica in the same bracket as them as well if he returns the driver he was. They're all relatively young as well, and could lead F1 into a golden era for the sport, especially if the on track action remains as exciting as it has been this season.

Ah, a thread that has all the hallmarks of old 606 slag-fest about it!

What can be said about F1 since 2004 is that F1 is now ultra competitive. Alonso is the only driver to have had two WDC's since then and each year since then has gone down to at least the penultimate race for the WDC to be decided.

Wakka, your comment about Hamilton can be thrown straight back at you and is ill thought out and shouts at the very thing that made 606 so bad. Button and Vettel have only won their WDC's in cars that are/were faster than their rivals for most of the year. So what?

All of the current WDC's have won races in cars that were not consistent front runners at the time. ALonso - Renault 2008, Hamilton - McLaren 2009, Vettel - Torro Rosso 2008. But when was the last time a driver won a WDC in a car that wasn't at least a match for the best on the grid?

A great driver can only make up so much of a car's deficencies.

personally I'm quite enjoying the number of WDCs in the last few years, it's a lot better than having some one winning it year after year. As for Vettel wining again this year, we're only 6 races into a 19/20 race year, I wouldn't put much money on him at this point as McLaren and Ferrari have caught them at a much greater pace this year. 2 DNFs and his lead is pretty much gone.

Any of the last 4 WDCs could be considered one trick ponies considering they have only each won 1 WDC.
