Can't speak for Warky but i'm not a cricket or Rugby fan................ although to me its still wrong.
I think the 'win at all costs' mentality is wrong for the National game it should be 'this is the best we have now lets play the best you have and see who wins'.
I read somewhere the other day that the FA have saved £2m in just 6 months after replacing Capello with Hodgo... That also includes the severance package
I'm sure that they will waste that again when they hire another foreign manager if Hodgson fails to win anything...........with the logic well an Englishman had the chance so now we should look elsewhere.... unpatriotic Buffoons...
ok, how about craig keiswetter then? manu tuilagi? there are other examples i'm sure. my point is, none of these people were born in england - i personally have no issue with them representing our country IF england is who they feel most connected to and feel passionately about playing for them. i don't agree with just scouring europe for the best youngsters and then steering them in england's direction - i find that idea preposterous. but to suggest you feel disconnected from the england team and then cite a reason being 'foreigners' both in management and playing terms is wrong if you are happy to include them in cricket or rugby or any other sport for that matter! it seems you are happy to include them in successful teams.
Well i'm afraid that went over my head.....not really a culture club man although i do remember Boy George appearing in an episode of 'The A Team' at the height of the bands Pomp..............Crazy Fool...
Supes-I can assure you if I was a fair weather fan I wouldn't have been an ITFC season ticket holder continuously for the last the last 25 years!
No Supers I am just disconnected from the English football team full stop! Good luck to those who follow this circus but I will not be watching it over the weekend.
With the greatest of respect I don't see what that has got to do with it! Why should a player be paid a large amount of money to play for his country? The Beat said that the only honour he wanted was to wear the England jersey!
i've by no means looked into this but i was of the understanding that most national FA's pay their players. and ALL england players donate their wage to various charities. bastards.
Hate International football, dont watch it and wouldnt watch if England were in a major final. I know people who dont take any interest until it gets to a qf or further and then its mainly a good reason to go to the pub! Really hate the jumping on the bandwagon crap. Total aside but I really hate it with Wimbledon. All those people who say they only watch Wimbledon not any other tournament - its all crappy tennis FFS. Think players and managers should be English or have English parents. That should be both players and managers alike. They are meant to represent their country. Remember David Johnson (the second one) had a choice out of about 5 or 6 countries. It just a joke. That view goes for Cricket (which I hate) and Rugby (which I like but dont really understand) Havent really liked International football since the way that god was treated (SBR for those who dont know about GOD) the crappy way that players get automatically picked whether they are on form/ off form/ dead etc and it doesnt matter if they cant fit into a team as we have a great set of players (which is crap we dont have any world class players) I hate the papers, especially the s*n for their ott patriotic build them up just to kick them on the way down attitude. I hope Roy does well though. He seems a decent guy and conducts himself well. Knowing the FA they will finally sh*t on him from a great height when we dont reach the heights that we have no way of reaching anyway
sorry weighty didn't dislike post. Doing this on I pod so my sausage fingers pressed wrong one. Btw. I'd have given my left nut to play for my country. Wouldn't need paying.
A valid point Supers, it had slipped my mind about them giving their fee to charity, good on them. I also think that the older the player gets the me he relishes that fact that he is playing for his country, I think it would be very hard to doubt the commitment to the England cause in recent years from the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Cole, Becks etc. I do though think we had a period a few years back when one or two players did become disillusioned with playing for England but I have to say I do not see that much evidence of it now.
