It seems the pace is gathering as the final 4 contestants battle it out. It would be ironic if Hull was named 'City of Culture 2017' just as the owner of our football club is seriously thinking of dropping the word 'City' from it's title. The single largest positive public relations boost we could ever expect....... oh well might come in handy as an excuse for Allam to change his mind and save face.
Assam Allam has noticeably not embraced the city of culture thing at all and the city of Hull culture bidders have stopped using the term, premier league city.
Not much about it on the national media at the moment. Surely anything which gets extra people into the city and possibly extra people through the KC turnstiles on matchdays should be supported by the owner of the biggest sporting club in the city - so don't get why Papa isn't supporting the bid
Steve Brady down there with the bigwigs tonight in London to add his 'weight' to the bid. It's in the ****ing bag!!
I hope we get it because of our real culture (whaling, abolition of slavery, Amy, white telephone boxes, Larkin, Marvell, Sir Tom, spirit of Hessle Road etc) rather than the 'bolt-on' version of one weekend a year fire-breathers and jugglers, and Humber Street. I hope we also get it on merit rather than a sympathy decision to help the lame dog candidate. I hope the likes of Bayes, Brady and Inglis do not jaundice the judging panel. I hope if we win, it will somehow permanently transform the fortunes of some people in this city in terms of prosperity and quality of life. (I'm not sure if that happened in Londoderry....) But most of all I hope we don't become 'trendy'.........
I've seen 'premier league city' used many times - and Visit Hull and East Yorkshire tourism boards have gone up in the away end to promote the city's offerings. Also, I believe Assem has something to do with the bid to bring HMS Illustrious to Hull, as his friends at Hull uni are also involved in it. HMS Illustrious is part of the new City Plan, which has been included in the City of Culture bid.
There is no chance of the people of hull or the city becoming trendy! They are nearly all so backwards and narrow minded it makes me laugh. Perhaps it's all the kosovans and polish that are pulling us up from the depths of the Humber.
Good call. Though I'm prepared to win by any means. I fear we'll get shafted somehow though (like the WC2018 bid and Tour De France thing), if this does happen, I think we should respond with aggression and violence instead of some sort of 'fair cop' response.
I have also seen "premier league city" used many times but seemed to come to an abrupt halt as the bidding process came towards it conclusion. I think it is a shame that the football club did not get fully behind the bid but nobody should point the finger of blame in that direction should it not succeed.
We are a 'Premier League City' during the bidding process but might not be in 2017. We can't deliver on that promise so it's a good call to drop it from the bid.
Kosovans or not there's loads of immigrants and the only way to stop this influx is to vote UKIP and help restore our national identity
