Cardiff are thinking about accepting a one million bid from Ipswich. Very proven player at this level who would be well worth getting for 1 million.

Yes he was an arsehole when we played against them but personally I would be over the moon if we signed him, proven goals, very quick and someone who will get our fans going if he has the ability to wind up to apposing fans

I wouldn't bother. Matty Fryatt will score goals, we need to concentrate on the supply line and a Goalie.

Fryatt brakes a leg, gets a serious injury or looses form, who do we have? Just Simpson. In my opinion you can never have enough championship quality strikers. atleast if they are on our bench they are not scoring for someone else Good cover out wide also.

    You're absolutely right.

This has to be about 100th time someone on this board has suggested we sign a poacher kind of striker this summer. Do these people not stop and think, wait what do we already have? This position is the only one we have completely covered with Fryatt, Simpson and McLean. We have absolutely no need whatsoever for anyone else in this mould. If you want to link us with someone, pick one of the endless positions we don't alreayd have covered rather than everyone focusing on a goalscoring forward we already have.

Mclean will not score goals, Simpson in city colours has not scored goals (although i am hopefull) Fryatt until for us did not have a decent record in the championship. You cant have too many strikers imo.

Teams like with money can't have too many strikers, but when you need 2 goalies, 2/3 centre backs, 2 midfielders, a left winger and a target man (8/9 players) and you don't have money to throw about, it's best to spend what money you do have on the players you actually need rather than buying luxury 5th and 6th choice strikers just in case of a freak injury.

Chopra is far better value than McLean and has a better than 1 goal in three games ratio. Had a turbulent private life over the past few years but hopefully has come to terms with it.
I seem to remember that he had a house in Yorkshire which may help.

So why now but 10 of them then?

Of course you can have too many!

Ideally you shoulld have 2 players to cover every position. Some of these will be utility players who can cover various roles.

For example we have on our books (excluding those who will be loaned out) Fryatt, McLean, and Simpson who are all the same type of player, plus Cam Stewart can also be a striker. These are all supposed to be goal scorers, although since he arrived, poor old Aaron McLean has been given the role of a tradional Centre Forward, which despite his lack of inches, he has provided some cover.

What we lack is a TRUE centre forward. A 6' something beefy lad, who can play with his back to goal, knows how to hold it up, lay it off and who can head the ball. At the moment I'm afraid it looks like Dele Adebola is going to be that person, but THAT is what we need. As far as I'm concerned Chopra is another Fryatt, Simspon, McLean type who is better facing goal, picking up second balls, running the channels and poaching in the penalty area.

Chopra is far better then McClean, and better then Simpson, if we sold one of these to fund the move them I would be happy. Wages might be a bit high.
Other areas we need to strengthen first though

I don't want Chopra at HCFC. He is a cheat and a fraud on the pitch just like Shane Long. I'd rather have a completely honest hard working player like Matty Fryatt or Jay Simpson playing for the Club. You'll never find them "WINNING" penalties.

Worse than that he's the kind of player that goes out to injure the opposition as well, how we managed to get away without needing to sub Myhill when Barnsley were at the KC a few years back I'll never know. It's a miracle one of his late challenges didn't injure him, and the dirty little bastard got away with them all because they were so late that Myhill's clearances were already over the halfway line and the officials and cameras were following the ball. That game he made Derry on Windass look like a friendly little trip like you'd get amongst mates on the playground at school.

Shame so many people have written off Mclean already, I've got no doubt he will do a good job for us next season if he gets a good pre-season in with the lads.

My biggest worry with McLean isn't the fact he seems to have forgotten how to control a ball or shoot, it's the fact that players like Fryatt appear to have lost faith in him and have started to avoid passing to him. It'll take more than a preseason for them to get back to thinking it's better to pass to him than try to shoot themselves even from silly places.

Just thinking about this, if Cardiff are considering accepting a £1M offer for Chopra then either he's said he wants out and is demanding they let him go somewhere or their finances worse than we expected. If there's any possibility of getting Gerrard it's in the next few weeks before total meltdown starts and everyone starts circling like vultures.

Can't believe they look like losing at least half their outfield team from this season (Bothroyd, Bellamy, Chopra, Burke, and Olofinjana (he played a lot)) and they're only going to have £1M come in to replace them, especially as I know they had other loanees as well to add to that list.

I agree that we need to strenghten in other areas and not sure if Chopra would add much. Anyone heard anything on either Mannone, Guzan or Ayala (I'd be more than happy with them) but PLEASE tell me we're not signing Adebola. To pinch a pun from another thread I'd rather be "ad" free and take the "ebola"
