They should have done this in the lower leagues to test the water as now it's gonna be viewed in front of the world. I'm just glad it's away from home as it's going to be the city of Cardiff that's gonna take the shame and not swansea. If all hell does break loose then at least we can expect a bubble trip when they come to swansea.
Who's going to be brave enough to go to this game, not on an official coach with it not being a bubble.
Don't really know where to start to try and explain really, I can see why it might be difficult for an outsider to understand. It cuts much deeper than football that's for sure. There is a real hatred in all aspects of life when it comes to Swansea and Cardiff. There has been serious problems at Glamorgan cricket matches when people from both cities have come into contact with each other. Last year a race meeting at Newbury had to be abandoned because all hell broke loose. The people involved from here was a group of lads from a local rugby club (Gorseinon which is about 5 miles outside Swansea). Did you know (and I'm genuinely not kidding) that at Wales international matches home fans are segregated? There are other political and economic issues but far too many to mention. We do not live with each other, we do not work with each other and really we should not be in a situation where we ever come into contact with each other EVER. In previous games there has been bedlam, I have seen women fighting and I have seen fans in football shirts and scarves fighting, not just the casuals. The last time I went to Ninian Park a group of women who must have been in their 50's were spitting at us. I was talking to our police liason officer down at Southampton today, he was telling me how much of a logistical nightmare it is for the police. All police leave is cancelled in South Wales for derby day. It is a bubble trip and the police will accompany the convoy of coaches all the way there and all the way back. There will be police stationed at every motorway bridge and junction, anyone suspected of travelling independently will be turned back or arrested. There will be over 500 officers inside the ground alone and hundreds more outside. There will be support from dog handlers, mounted police and from police helicopters too. If this was not a bubble match there would be mayhem that much is definite.
Another absurd situation occured when we played Slovenia at The Liberty. Wales and Slovenia fans mingled in the same seating area - Cardiff fans were segregated behind the goals! Did u have a good trip today Dill (apart from the result!)
Cheers Dilli, clearly serious **** going down. No, I didn't know that there was segregation at Wales Internationals, I did wonder what that earlier poster was going on about. Although have tbh the age group of people in their 50's you mention, sounds a bit like most of the supposed rivalry between us and Swindon which was caused in the late 70's to mid 80's, middle aged men reliving times gone by, while younger members follow in the glorification of senior footsteps. Sad really. Although I have to say my trip to the County Ground this season was a non event, sterile. I suppose it's different when you've got two opposing communities living and breathing virtually the same space. Never really experienced that type of rivalry apart from the Wall invading our patch...lol...we won't mention the red bus brigade but in truth all harmless stuff, unlike your domain.
Well if it's not a bubble, I will not be going, as the last time I went to Ninian Park we had bricks thrown at us over a wall as we left the ground, even though it was a bubble, and the police were slow to act, don't even know how the Redtit idiots got into a position to do that, but Kairdiff are too much a problem children, cannot be bothered with this crap in 2013, no way would I take my kids either!................
from the Travel Club . "Further to you travelling with Swansea City Travel Club for the Crystal Palace trip and information given to people on the coach, when calling at the Pod Saturday and yesterday, we have had further discussions/meetings with the Club/Ticket Office. We still do not know the cost of the match tickets or how many points are required but it has been agreed that we can put a list into the Ticket Office and they will hold the tickets for a couple of days for people to get the money to us. The money has to be paid to us in cash NOT to the Ticket Office, please bear this in mind before you ask us to get your ticket and book your coach seat. As soon as the prices are released, you will need to contact us to obtain details of when we will be opening the pod for you to pay, as stated above we will only have a couple of days. Anyone who has not paid will have their order cancelled. You will need to check the Swans Travel Club message board for up to date information. If you want to be included on our Coach list you will need to email us on [email protected] immediately, with the following information; Jack Army Number, Travel Club Membership No., Full Name. " I wonder how many will take this up ,I'm doubtful purely for all the reasons posted before.
It can't be easy for some fans of other clubs to understand the intensity of the rivalry between us and Cardiff, it is there every day and even I (a generally mild mannered lady as Dilligaf will tell you) get really wound up by our neighbours. For me it first goes back to the Vetch days in the late sixties when a group of their hooligans starting fighting ours trying to take over the back of the North Bank so I have looked upon their fans with total disgust bordering on hatred ever since. Rarely went to Ninian Park when we have played there because I knew there would be trouble but the last time when Joe Allen scored and Dean gave them a disgraceful last minute pen I did go but even then I got hit by stones being thrown towards where the buses were parked after the game. At their new stadium when Emnes got our winner despite the huge police presence coins were raining in on us in our section such is the vitriol of their hatred so the thought of independent travel next month is ridiculous. It will be a bubble trip as Dilligaf says and we will be policed in and out though hopefully won't have to leave quite as early as last time, not sure how many tickets we will get but won't be that many, can't say it is a game I ever enjoy such is the intensity and importance riding on the result.
I last visited Ninian Park for a derby match back on Boxing Day of '80. Had no problem at all going up on the train, getting to the stadium or sitting in the stand. Wouldn't dream of it today. Glad I'm going to be able to watch it live on tv over here. Because of the limited size of the Liberty I can only get tickets to away games and that's where I watch the Swans when I'm over. I've never experienced the sort of problems at other stadiums that we have to deal with from Cardiff supporters .... and to be fair, we have our share of idiots too.
I want to be clear as the OP and after seeing the posts. This is not isolated to the C.Diff fans. I was at the last bubble trip to Legoland and the mindless destruction of Cardiff West Services was embarrassing. And that WAS a bubble trip. The dibbles didn't move an inch when we told them, but I digress. All that said, MBSL and Dilli's posts describe bubble trips that correlate with my copper next door neighbour who also said it was going to be a bubble trip. I think post #2 may have been close. The EP is full of ****.
I can confirm that some of our idiots did cause chaos at those services (no Dilligaf I wasn't one them) and it was really frustrating that the police stood by, trouble was we left far too early so instead of just going straight to the ground we had to wait for sometime at Cardiff West and some of the overgrown kids on these buses got restless and started messing about. Understand Ugo is hoping that we can leave later this time to lessen the chances of similar problems.
That was shameful, I felt for the families who were in the services at the time with young kids. If they had to stop us in the services, then it should have been shut to the public for an hour or something, but I think it would have been a better option to close a lane of the concrete road to hold the buses on and just don't let anyone off while we're waiting. Most buses have got toilets now, we don't need the services on such a short trip
That would be one way of dealing with it, but considering the 500,000 coppers on site, they could have just had a police presence in the loo/shop/Burger King. They would have thought twice if there was a fella with a baton (and the urge to use it!) over their shoulder.
The way things are going there will be no trip at all! Where is the info re the tickets/buses? I think Dill mentioned that Kuala Lumpa were messing us around with the tickets -just over three weeks to go and still no news. It's the recipe for a major cock up.
I'll put a thread up when I get some news. Yes we are being messed about and expect extortionate prices too. Looks like Charlie Chan is now going to rip us off too
