As Toon's last 12 goals have all been scored by Frenchmen, one of whom is currently on loan from a certain West London club close to our hearts, I think it appropriate that the show about loveable Geordie builders be renamed accordingly.

Our Loic can finish, can he by heck? I still can't see him wanting to come back south at the end of the season, though. Am I correct in thinking he has a buy-out clause, or is there an opportunity to cash in big money as his capital increases this season?

He has an £8m buyout. So really we will get £2m more than we paid for him including the loan fee. That would pay for his wages so we got him for free for a season.

The bad thing is he's worth £20m if he carries on banging them in.

Isn't the £8m the minimum though? If two or three clubs are interested, the price could be hiked. I don't think Newcastle have an option as part of the loan deal.

I thought that if we got promoted the buy-out clause becomes moot. The clause only pertains to relegation.

No, anyone who meets the clause can buy him. Our only hope is there is a time limit on it.

Promotions are only official on July 1st, a club could put a bid in before that but after the season finishes.

I would guess the agreement with Newcastle specifically is that they'd only have to pay the balance I.e. £6m given the £2m loan fee.

Why would be do that and cost ourselves £2m? The clause is £8m and the £2m fee was a loan fee.

Someone else is bound to come in and offer £8m.

Don't forget, there is still the possibility, he may come back to Shepherds Bush a lot sooner than he would like...Wormood Scrubs...everything is up in the air till that is sorted out!

Buy out clause or not if he continues this form and is not jailed somebody big will come in for him. I'm willing to bet he won't be playing for Newcastle next season, more chance of the bright lights of London luring him back to us, but even more of a top 6 club here or Champions League team in Europe getting him.

Agree, but surely the £8m, is a minimum, and if a number of clubs place offers, we should get a nice return.

Its the maximum, not the minimum.

If you were a buyer, why would you pay more than you need to?

I think the simple fact is that it's Remy's release clause and not the prospective buyer's. This means that if a hundred clubs all come in with offers in excess of £8m, and one of them is Newcastle and he wants to sign for Newcastle, then he can sign for Newcastle for £8m. It doesn't matter if Stroke offer £80m if he wants to go to Toon.

I think thats it. If more than one club offers £8m, or whatever the buyout clause is, then its the player's choice. No outbidding or extra pay day for us. Unless he's already made some sort of commitment to Toon, on the grounds that they would take him while the rape case is ongoing. Either way, someone is getting a bargain.

Yes... it's all about the player's desired destination.

My understanding is that the player has the option to exercise his release clause if the fee is offered not the buying club - and if the player is getting a percentage of the fee (depending on the contract) he might decide to decline a 'release' offer and opt for a bigger offer that includes a signing on fee.

Ultimately it makes no odds to the playing squad as he won't be with us next year but, if this is feasible as a scenario, it might just make Tony and Co. a couple of quid extra.

They both pay 8m as paying more won't stop him speaking to the other team. They will have to offer more wages which is why he came to us. We have to sell him on the cheap and he will get overpaid.

Then again he may have a pang of jealously seeing Charlie banging in the goals in that beautiful hooped shirt and realise stripes are not the future
