Brian's comments after the embarrassing defeat

TRUE the first goal was a shambles and resembled schoolboys trying to defend with all 3 players marking the same man...

In reality though we need players who actually know what to do with a football

You look at Derby's side and the brilliant Will Hughes + their other lovely one touch football.

We are a complete shambles and heading in one direction only.

Even when we win we look like a poor poor team, just no skill

But it's all poor. Defence making basic mistakes, midfield no better than last season and not a trace of a striker. Playing with Hunt in the team is liking playing with ten men in every game

Mowatt was by far the best player on the pitch, the problem is the manager plays mr bean (paul green)and Hunt is clueless even Ross just looked fat and slow yesterday.First goal Green gave them the ball and then never tracked the runner, second goal who's trotting along 2 yards behind the runner again ? yes paul fookin Green.Thought we were the better team first half yesterday, but we can't carry these clueless guys like Green and Hunt, and leave Byram on the bench.Brown should have played against millwall,no good putting flyweights up in a fighting game against millwall.

Keeping just to the subject of playing quality:

this is the result of a sorry trend since 2007 at least. The players that made me keen to watch Leeds have invariably been sold on, and we bring in the sort of players that you can bring in when the budget is very tight.

Not all are a waste of space, but for many of them there's a reason they were available. A number CAN do what is required, but its a major effort and they soon have relapses, and they don't have the extra resilience and quality to fight away from home and prize open opposition defences at home (not consistently, anyway).

BM may have thought there was a bit more money that was actually available, and I can see why he'd done what he's done:

Morison - was delivering nothing so understandable
Wootton - based on first games looked a good decision, even if he has - unaccountably - disappeared off the scene
Murphy - Crewe have a record of developing good players and he was their captain, and young. Seemed a good decision, indeed if put into a better team he might have found it easier to make the grade
Hunt - has not worked out but can see the thinking, works his socks off (copyright NW) and if he was scoring a few goals (10-12 a season)and some assists, would have been fine, for me. He isn't though.
Smith - cheap and a punt. Does bring something though.
Also BM a bit slow to realise the talent in the academy, I think.
Has not fixed glaring gap of wing play and maybe a striker - is this because he expected more funds, or he ex[pectd to be able to move on some of the "quality" NW signings? Or both?

Anyway, too many "mr Average" players plus a lack of the right mix of players = you start playing strange formations, using players out of position (is Austin no longer playing the holding role because he is better playing more forwards, or because everyone else is useless there?) and new players find it hard to make their mark, the crowd start to get annoyed, confidence falters, and so on.

Unfortunately we are potentially the new Newcastle United now, the team with great expectations and no frigging hope of fulfilling them, so about time for the bandwagon of BM out to start (in fact it already has, on JA606)

I think we need a bit more than that, someone who can put the ball in the back of the net would be nice

Watch the first goal on FL Show highlights, and ask yourself - would they have scored with Austin in that role? (I'll give you a clue - the answer is NO EFFING WAY)

Paddy Kenny. Too small, and doesn't guide the defence.
He has to be a good shot stopper because he gets so much practice.
Oh, and he would rather be playing in Sheffield. Drop him.

Hopefully Burnley or Watford, then everyone will have a chance<laugh><laugh>
