Hi all On 18 October at 7.30 at the club, there will be the big launch night of the 1881. The Watford Supporters Trust will be there, as well as as many supporters as possible! There will be beers and nibbles available and the 1881 are hoping that loads of people will turn up so if you can, please head down to the club on Friday 18 October (the night before the Derby game) when the 1881 will be officially launched and hopefully a lot of noise will be made! And..don't forget to bring your friends! Let's support this great event and get down to the club, the 1881 are doing a fantastic job and Vicarage Road is beginning to rock! Show your support by joining the 1881 on this very special night! (if you can indicate your intention to come, that'd be fab, ta muchly!)
The more the merrier, will be great time to meet more people, a few beers and get our throats in tuine for The Derby game
sounds like it will be a good night I wouldn't expect much of an atmosphere with all those Watford fans though
Cannot make it H as I am off out that night with Mrs W_Y. But I am going out after the Derby game locally, catching a train to Northwood Hills and having a few beers and a proper Indian with the Indian contractor who used to work for me - fancy a beer in The Lion after the game?
Think that Josh was appealing the decision and it will not be closed until after that has been heard.
ah ok...sounds like they haven't helped themselves as far as the reasons for closure are concerned...such a shame..
Heard the same on Saturday..Police don't like the place and need little reason to give them a hard time
Shame I'm on this little rock on 18th - if it was 2 weeks later (1st Nov - the night before the Leicester game), I'd be able to come. Re the Lion, as long as the licence is in order and is being adhered to, I would've thought restriction of trade could be one thing that could be stated as part of the appeal, although what I was taught in the law module in my degree was more about history of law and how it evolved to what it is now plus the Health & Safety at Work Act.
apparently it's been run fairly badly...and they were caught opening at 10.30am when the license kicked in at 12pm. Also found with away fan kids in the pub at the Leeds game. From what i've heard, the police didn't need to try to hard to find reasons to get it closed...they dished it to them on a plate. Shame, but not very bright!
Le'ts face it, when Baz said he was going to spend loads of money on it and have it opened again, quite a few wondered why. It is an out of date pub, in the wrong area except for match day. Parking is dreadful and it is not large enough to cash in on the days when there are a lot of people at the ground. Yes it is an icon of it's day, but that is a day of open terraces and a foul cup of half-time tea if you were at the head of the queue. Pubs everywhere struggle without having a good restaurant and comfortable decor, so there is not too much going for it I am sorry to say.
Guys, I wouldnt usually do this but can we move the Red lion chat elsewhere. Imo it kinda taints the 1881 chat. This is a thread celebrating the 1881, their work and for ideas for improvement. Cheers guys and H.
I know, but the pub is still tainted by Bassini and the 1881 needs to be as far away from him as possible. The two shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence. I also have other reasons, personal reasons, for not wanting that discussion on this thread. Before you say just dont read it, I have to read it so as to gauge numbers attending but also to get feedback.
Take your point Dan. Clearly when you are as far away from the Vic as me, 1881 doesn't have quite the same importance as it does for you. I think that you are all doing a good job and would support any effort to increase atmosphere in the ground. Hope that the evening is a success.
