Down loaded 'Electric Mud' on Superhuskys reccomendation. Good Album - Muddy goes Hendrix. All the usual Muddy stuff with a twist.
I'm listening repeatedly to Reflektor by Arcade Fire. Takes a couple of listens to get into but is fantastic. My other current favourite is Taking Over by Miles Kane.
I listened to this and thought it was funny. Then after 90 seconds I put it off because it was grating. I can imagine that repeat listens could push you over the edge....
And check out this young new punk band who don't sound unlike The Misfits.
I can't get past Rob Zombie's "Venomous Rat Regeneration Unit" at the moment, but am easing gently into Alter Bridge's "Fortress" interspersed with Michael Monroe's "Horns And Halos". I have a headache most days. I sometimes hear voices. Gotta go, mother's calling...
Super, I love Liege and Lief. I was in a bar in southern Florida about ten years ago where a singer-guitarist played a kind of bluegrass version of Matty Groves - different names and lyrics, but the structure was unmistakeable. I spoke to him in his break, but he seemed unimpressed when I explained that he was singing a US version of a traditional English song from the 17th century.
just thought i'd join in as i wanted to se if Daveinmelbourne was gonna techno the hell out of us !! My taste, well spent most of my youth on the club scene and have many friends that DJ at various places. Fabric, Ministry, 3rd Base, henrys, Pascha etc..so thats my main stuff But i like all kinds. Love R&B, blues, reggae, punk, drum & bass, Mowtown and Reggae..but my absolute favourite is SKA....right back to the Desmond Dekker & other jamaican artists, and even northern soul gets a mention. What am i listening too right now...An old Head Kandi albumn from 2008 is currently banging away. Although i worked at many venues and used to go to loads of concerts, i dont really like live bands. Not into "rock" so van halen, Hawkwind et al dont even intrest me. EDIT: although i do like Guns & Roses..does that make me a bad person...!?
I never tire of hearing Matty Groves. It is a perennial Fairport favourite and will always get the crowd on their feet. The only Guns's and Roses track I know is 'Sweet Child of Mine' which I confess to liking. It's great to to see the diverse music tastes on here. Long may the thread continue.
Great album, amazing song. That's a pretty funny story, I can imagine the guy's perplexed/disinterested expression - I've seen it a few times myself! Not really an obscure band but I've got The Allman Brothers Band 'Beginnings' in the CD player at the moment. It's their first two albums on one disc. Great array of different styles, country, blues, funky/souly, rock, across the whole album. Wandle, there is Howling Wolf (I think) album done 'Electric Mud'-style from the same period. I've only heard one track but it might be worth a listen/purchase. From a guilty pleasures perspective, I like Tommy James and the Shondelles (sic) 'Crimson and Clover'. Very poppy but good listen at the same time. It was recommended by Jagger on some radio show once so I followed it up.
You cant beat a bit of Howling Wolf, his 'London Sessions' double cd is amazing, so full of life. I can highly recommend it
Queens, do you know a DJ called Anthony Pappa ?? Plays a lot your way. Friend of mine and a lovely fella.
Not by name i dont think mate. Where does he play? any idea.? If he's out here in "the valley" then he'l be having a ball! Got one club that was built by 3 guys who spent 3 years touring the world going to clubs to find out what a super club should look and feel like. Design was: 7 floors, open top, international DJ's every week and cheap entry...place is always rocking!!
Dunno the names of the Clubs he plays mate but often touring Oz and doing the big mega clubs. Also tours a lot in South America, where he is very popular. If ever you see his name it's definately a good night to go clubbing.
