It seems that a lot of contracts seem to end at the end of June (don't ask me why) so there may be a rush for free transfers in early July. As for how many players we can get, I wouldn't like to guess, but I'd rather get 9 decent Championship level players than 12+ 'making up the numbers' players.
I think we need a squad of about 23 players tbh - providing some competition and back up in the event of suspension or injury - we have only 10??? I think. So - agree totally we want the best quality we can get - but I think we do need numbers - when we hit that really good run last season that took us to just outside the play-off positions we simply ran out of steam - a lack of numbers was definitely a factor.
We currently have 8 players (excluding Ben Haim, I doubt he'll ever pull on a Pompey shirt again). I reckon we need to bring in 12 more players
