http://www.football365.com/southampton/8957449/Laudrup-Saints-aiming-too-high Morning all! Genuine question. Your manager thinks 8th is the highest anyone outside of the so called top clubs can finish. I know that's probably realistic but shouldnt you be at least aiming for higher? Speaking personally I want my Chairman, manager to be striving to make my club the best it can be!
Seem they have alot of respect for us. Southampton forum http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?46988-Saints-v-Swansea-Build-Up#.Uk_GLJLJR8E
Some nice comments on there, however I like how some are writing us off due to our indifferent start to the season, yet fail to acknowledge who we have actually had to play There is a huge difference to playing: - West Brom (8th) - Sunderland (17th) - Norwich (11th) - West Ham (10th) - Liverpool (7th) - Crystal Palace Compared to playing - Man Utd (1st) - Spurs (5th) - Liverpool (7th) - West Brom (8th) - Crystal Palace - Arsenal (4th) So I think our 7 points, compared to their 11 is a better return for me personally. Will we win, I don't think so with our defensive injuries, I am going for a draw, but still, we are better than our current position suggests
The match against Southampton really show how far we have come. It is one of the teams this season (with Everton) we are competing with for the 7-8 th place.
I would agree, but to break into the top 6 will be huge financial outlay. Our board have seen the club on it's knees and will not splash the cash beyond what we can afford, we currently couldn't as we would need to increase revenue into the club. Just look at Spurs spending close on 100m in the transfer window, even spending that amount they will get top 6 but not necessary the PL title. Are we going to get in the elite bunch of Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal & Spurs, you then have Everton & Liverpool can we get in amongst them, then yes we could. But will Liverpool be outside the elite clubs, that will depend on how Liverpool perform. Our board are ambitious but on the progressive scale. In the last 10 years we have improved on and off the field year after year after year, now this may be the one year we take a step backwards with Europe. Id take 8th place this season, did predict 7th but feel we will be in 10th. I think we are about 3-4 years away from getting into the top 6 and possibly Champions League. I'm proud the way our club is run, operated in the black and not racking up debt.
I think this season is going to be much tighter at the top. We've already seen most of the top sides slip up and I can see that continuing.
At the moment anybody can beat each other. I was disappointed we lost to Man U as I felt we had enough to beat them, but we have RVP firing on all cylinders that day. Oh to play them now. Plus we battered Liverpool after going behind, so most feel that getting a draw the felt liked we'd dropped points that day.
I was going to post the following on the Saints board but they might close the thread FAO Southsmpton fans, if you look at the Swans fans find the one that's most pissed and that's Dilli
Laudrup doesn't always say what we want to hear - we are used to it now! But he is never far off the mark.
Man Utd Man City Arsenal Spurs Chelsea Liverpool Everton Not in any particular order, these clubs will make up the top 7 in the league, so after those sides, 8th place is up for grabs for the rest of us, so in my opinion Laudrup is spot on
Why is Everton included in this Group, and not fx Newcastle? NC has a bigger supporter Group/economy. Is it because Newcastle recently was relegated? Everton stikes me as a Club of great tradition, but not massively better players, finances or manager...
Everton are a team Newcastle are a group of players Thats why they are tehre, as Everton have been in and around the top 8 for how many seasons now? A good while
