From the FA's perspective it is a win. According to the laws of the game it is a draw.

The laws say - "The team scoring the greater number of goals during a match is the winner. If both teams score an equal number of goals, or if no goals are scored, the match is drawn."

They go on to say -

"When competition rules require there to be a winning team after a match or home-and-away tie, the only permitted procedures for determining the winning team are those approved by the International F.A. Board, namely:

    • away goals rule
    • extra time
    • kicks from the penalty mark"

Don't know where that leaves the discussion - Can you both be right? From a statistical point of view, I would say that it would have to be considered a draw.

Cym is right. The match was drawn so the team to progress to the next round was determined by penalties.

But its an amazing run all the same and you've got a good chance of extending it

It leaves us with the fact that, had we scored in extra time, it still would have been a draw.

WHO CARES ABOUT TECHNICALITIES !!! Technically RVP is a ****, but he stiill has two legs. We beat them and I do not care was it draw or a win.

As I said in post #213,even though the game ended in a draw i'd quite happily accept it as a win

It was and IS a win, end of story, 10 wins in a row for us, and 12 away wins in a row us, they even put it in the matchday program as part of our 12 away wins.

I never said I was boycotting it, bought the program and magazine, for 6 pounds together, used to be 5, :-(.

But I did eat at the ground, they actually have a good deal, 8 pounds for a burger, chips, and drink, the meal deal is cheaper if you buy them separately, :). Though the chips could've been better.

He scored twice if you count the one he scored in a penalty shoot out at the 1993 Charity Shield but goals scored in penalty shoot outs are not recorded as goals on official statistics.

I was there when we equaled the 42 game unbeaten run, and when we broke it a few days later, :-D. Wasn't even a member back then, managed to get tickets on general sale for the Boro and Blackburn games.
