This is a strange thing, preferring some players to others.

Can't keep sentimentally liking players if they had a good season, but at the same time can sentimentally be disliking or even hating players if they have one bad game once in a while, make a couple bad desicions on the pitch and get banned for a few games, or make a mistake that possibly leads to opposition scoring against you in 2 or 3 games in a season. Go figure... :emoticon-0112-wonde

Now't wrong with sentimentality, Swords. It's what separates us from the Borg.

I agree. We must not let that happen again. But if a player isn't up to NPC level, he ain't going to be up to PL standard.

If we do go up, we'll have to hold onto all the players that did well in the Championship.

Surprised to see this. Carroll's dithering and mistakes on Saturday made Faurlin not the worst player on the field but there is no way you can say he had a good performance. In fact, I don't think HR has ever seen him have a decent game. I have always liked the bloke but it looks to me that at 27 he needs to decide if he really want to become a top flight footballer or sink into obscurity.

Dont think he can be judged on 1 game, either good or bad. i didnt see the game so cant offer an opinion on his performance, but having read a few reports; once you take out the hysteria and delusion its appears he had a decent game.

If he carries on for the next 3 or 4 then thats great. If not it was a one off. I remember granero having a good game (once) as well !

For the record, I like Ali & really hope he steps up and delivers.

He's played twice and we've won both if I'm not mistaken.

Surely that's the opposite of a certain player who could do all the tricks in the world but, if we lost, what's the point?

He played 89 minutes in our worst display this season against Swindon, so the logic doesn't hold up here.

I didn't think his was an outstanding performance on Saturday; I'm just not seeing it, but opinions are divided.

    I have a theory though.....

I was sat in Ellerslie Road. I suspect that those that praised him highly were in The Loft where his movement, the timing of his runs, and his positional play are more openly observed - looking down the pitch - rather than across.

    Any takers?

You could be right sku. I sit is the middle/middle of the Ellerslie and from there Carroll and Faurlin looked like a slapstick comedy duo rather than a creative midfield. Having said that I think most people are just getting carried away with a masterful passing display centred around Krancjar, Barton and O'Neil and have have managed to overlook the lesser contributions.

I'm a sentimental old fool. I hope Faurlin gets a run of games to either cement his place in the team or confirm that his injury had killed his career. Playing one match every-so-often will not do either.

Faurlin was central to much of the masterful passing. I was sat in the upper loft so maybe sku has a point.
But, to call Carroll and Faurlin a "slapstick comedy duo" is quite possibly one of the biggest exaggerations I've ever heard!!

Faurlin is the only player in this team I have any sentimentality for, hope he gets a fair go and delivers.
