Arsenal went 49 games unbeaten with only Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole in their ranks <whistle>

EDIT: Chelsea under Vialli regularly fielded a first team of 11 foreign players and they won a couple of cups under him.

One is not a great number fella, and we're talking about zero regulars. Campbell and Cole were fairly important cogs. Not easy is it. <whistle><laugh>

And that's without touching on the standard of foreigners in that team and compare them with our current one? Bergkamp, Pires, Henry, Silva, Vieria, Llungberg, Lehmann, its like a who's who of world superstars at the peak of their powers.

I was just going to say that HS.

No offence intended, but I thought this thread was entitled "Cardiff City v Newcastle United - Official Build Up/ Match Day Thread".

Sorry guys, but if this is your idea of it, you're boring the arse of us lot down here with your internal ramblings. Stick to it on another thread and let posters talk about the upcoming game on this one, not your bloody problems. <ok>

The thought had crossed my mind that you're a tad disgruntled with the overseas chappies and their clloective stomach for the rough and tumble of the Premier League.

That said I've only ever seen British morris dancers....<whistle>

We've brought in a lot of players whose one common factor is that they are cheap. If you're going to be cheap, you've got to be cheerful. We're not.

We need some spirit somewhere. No question the arrival of an influential player (a kick ass CB, for example) would have gone a long way to lifting morale, which is really almost as good as installing grit.

It didn't happen. Pardew has to generate morale from a standing start after a summer of shambles. Maybe you think he's the wrong man for the job but don't underestimate the difficulty of the task.

Edit: Chelsea under Vialli. Duberry, Wise, Le Saux, Morris 98/99 season. Sutton, Wise, Morris, Le Saux 99/00. Similar story the following season when sacked. These English players played significant numbers of games.

    Tiote - one season wonder

    Santon - a joke

Debuchy - top of the class joke

    Williamson - championship

Gouffran - trys but headless chicken

Cisse - poor mans Andy cole

    Sissko - no effort

Cayabe - talented but no desire

Mbiwa - old club must have seen us coming

Gosling - trade description act breached surely

Obertan - headless chicken but french

Arfa - injury prone and lacks consistence

Elliott / over weight and Sunday league standard at best

Remy / every goal he scored will cost us more long term thanks to kinnear

Anita - decent but not rated by the club

Granted Arfa and cayabe are talented

It may be an old fashioned viewpoint but the successful British players were brought up on a diet of strength and bruising challenges. Take the ball and the player after. Rugby boots and running it off.
The foreign players are more about tricks and skill, floating around. The british lads would roll their sleeves up and do the dirty work whilst the foreign players did the tricks and scored the amazing goals.
An era of players like Adams and Klinsmann worked together (i know they didn't but you get the idea) because they complimented each other. Added to that the Adams' would show the foreigners what the club was about. What it meant.
    We don't have that.

Out of that list the only player who ever crashed through a player and came out the other side with the ball was Tiote in that first season. He was finished when he started to get booked for just looking at the ball.
