Think everyone got Shaw right?? Would of thought the Bristol game would of been a good test for Targett if thought good enough, after all LB is the one position we struggle to cover adequately even with Fox in the squad.
Been told that this is a load of rubbish by my friend who knows Danny's wife. Doesn't seem to make much sense anyway, given that we have no senior back up.
Unless they've been told to quash rumours until everythings finalised. I feel bad about the grief fox got- he may not have been up to PL standard but did a good job for us in the NPC. I felt he was the fall guy for a crap defense. Actually Kelv was the fall guy. You get the picture.
His contribution in the Championship was instrumental. No one can deny that. His set piece delivery and crosses were always dangerous. Unfortunately, his defensive ability was found wanting when we got promoted. He has certainly got something to offer the squad though.
Was on about Shaw a few months before last season. When people were saying he isn't ready etc. I watch loads of academy games tho.
His contribution is duly noted by me. I've never been one to barrack Fox seriously, but I'm entirely aware of those players who are of superior capability. Fox could be undone by a few of the best wingers or RMs that the Championship had to offer, but was out of his depth in the PL. I believe he's seen the departure of various players [you know what, I couldn't see Puncheon getting a game in this side now and he's only been gone 5 minutes] and realised that he wants regular football. Good for him if that's how it is, because he'll be an excellent addition to Derby County, and he'll come with a bit more PL experience, added to his Burnley days. Besides, anybody who has played for Stranraer gets my respect, and he's only 27, so he should be playing.
Maybe, but it is Bolton who are supposedly interested. Don't think there is any substance to it though.
Found my flaw, AL. Why did I write Derby County..? I don't know. What a twerp. please log in to view this image I could have written something like... he'll be an excellent addition to any Championship side... and got away with it. Indeed, it was Bolton.
A Championship player with Premier League tattoos. A great left foot, but lacking in pace and speed of thought. His place in the team was doomed from day one, especially when it turns out we had a 17 year old who could do his job better. In previous seasons his mediocre defending was enough, and his left footed crosses and right sided-corners were a dangerous weapon. After 70 minutes, he would be replaced by a player who had the same turning speed as an articulated lorry, making him look even better.
Interesting or scary....eeek. I still can't forgive him for that failed hoolywood pass in at home against Reading that cost us the championship.
He made two mistakes in the build up to the first goal. After that we were chasing the game as Reading were playing incredibly defensive and purely on the counter. Give him a break though, it wasn't just him that had a poor game and they still had plenty to do. In fairness the cross and header were perfect. I wasn't happy with Adkins' tactics in that game, several players played poorly, Reading were very clinical and luck was completely against us. Fox was dreadful in that game but it's very harsh to pin not winning the Championship all on him! It didn't really matter that much that we didn't win it either. Our goal was automatic promotion. Winning the Championship would have been a nice bonus but I certainly didn't lose any sleep over not getting it.
I know being harsh but its a human failing. Was the breaking point after several poor performances from the guy. lol. I remember going mad on this forum that night. lol.
I don't blame Fox for anything. But I do blame the people who kept selecting him. I was moaning about his lack of positional sense after his very first game and I couldn't believe that no one else noticed. I mentioned it on my very first post on Not-606 and came in for a bit of grief back then. I actually began to wonder if it was some weird tactic we were employing, "let the guy cross and we'll deal with it" sort of thing. Anyway, good luck to him but I hope we never see him in a Saints shirt again.
Ooh harsh, but completely understandable. I suppose a few games in the minor rounds of the League and FA Cup aren't going to satisfy anyone.
