I've always defended him, and in only 45 minutes, he showed in a nutshell what I like about him, and why anyone thinking we should sell him is ****ing stupid.

Note, I'm not committing a knee jerk reaction. I just think he gets a **** load of undeserved stick. He has quite a few sloppy games, but 75-80% of the time, he puts in good 7/10 shifts.

His aerial ability is superior to anyone elses in our side, in terms of winning the ball. He actually managed to beat Lukaku a few times in the air. He's also not unintelligent either.

His only problem is lack of pace and sometimes his positioning.

I'd stills start with Colo and Mbiwa, but if things keep going the way they are, then Willo needs to come back. We really do lack an aerial presence at the back, and the only one in the squad that comes close to that is Williamson.

Whenever Willo comes back after an injury or when we need him, he makes instant impact.

If he's first choice for a long period of time, then he is, but if he's back up, he's a solid defender. I've even heard a lot of the retired players that commentate praise him for his work.

He gets judged completely on his bad games.

He gets judged a lot then as he has lots of bad games.
He is a solid championship defender at best.

We kept a lot of clean sheets with him in the team- that speaks volumes. Always liked him and the only thing that annoys me about him is his distribution.

He's got to start the next game for mez Mbiwa was so poor last night. Not sure why... Bad night? Naivety? Who knows but needs a break from the first team. We were so much more solid with Williamson in the team.

Anything that gets Debuchy out of the side right now and MYM out of the firing line, to the right.

If Colo has his hands full with a player, the whole back line collapses. I find this more alarming that the suggestion Mike Williamson is a decent player. Because once Colo goes, were ****ed against anyone.

He is championship level for me but a good honest pro. At least he gives 100% and applies himself in a professional manner. Not all of our players can say that.

    ACS,
It's easy to have a pop at someone lie Willo.
He never claimed to be world class but he always gives 100% and never hides (unlike some when things go wrong!).
Look at all those who slated/hated Perch but now moan that he's gone.
How many players have we driven away who have gone on to be a success?
Follow your own advice - SUPPORT THE TEAM (not just some of them) and not the regime!!!!!

I do support the team fella, 110% percent and never boo. Outside of the 90 mins though I have a right as we all do to voice my displeasure at Pards etc.
My comments about Willo go back a couple of years now. My opinion is that he is ****e. Perch filled lots of positions and conversely I always rated the lad.. Big time (bar the odd moan).
I've never slated him as a person... Merely as a PL centre back... Which I feel he isn't. I judge people on the job they are paid to do, plain and simples.
It's cool that people disagree, that's part of the crux of forum life.

Deserves a start. Our best player yesterday. Showed maturity, mopped a lot, not afraid to head the ball.
There's not much between him and Taylor in terms of quality really. People prefer Taylor because he is local.

    Albert,
I know you weren't having a go at him personally, and I agree we can all have opinions of our own - I just worry that some people - not necessarily you - are quic to slag off certain players, whilst others get away with things far more.
It may just be me, but Willo is one of those who gets caned far too easily by too many - yet others (insert own choice of name) get more slack.

Don't worry - I wasn't having a pop at you personally - just at the trend of some players getting hammered for a single mistake whilst others go weeks without moans!

I know mate, no offence taken at all.
We all have our favourite and worst, such is life as a fan.
Now... If it were Willo or Obertan to start a game... That's a different gravy.
I think when we are winning we can forgive errors etc...but when we are in the **** those... Imperfections so to speak... Are magnified by many.
Differing views we may have... But we ultimately share the same hopes and goals.

One more thing, I don't agree that we have no right to slag off on certain players who were truly ****e.

Best case in point is Perch. When he started those first few games for us at RB, he picked up a booking every game, and got lucky for the first few games, and eventually him being out of depth showed. He was ****e, make no mistake about it.

But he worked his arse off in training and worked and worked. Until he got his chance at Defensive Midfield MONTHS later brought on as a sub. And he never looked back since.

Were we wrong to criticise Perch when he was ****e? No. Was he ****e? Definitely.
My point being, if the player is PLAYING that badly, like Debuchy is, we should not defend him, when he may be a favourite for us, like HBA would have his off days as well.

Also, to davieboy, I think when we moan that Perch is gone, it's not that we're fickle or anything. It's more that we're livid that Perch, having turned out into a fine squad player after having finally settled down, was sold off for a pittance fee when we absolutely should have kept him. That's the biggest reason for it I believe.

As for Willo, I think our stance on him shouldn't have changed , we've obviously seen every possible side of him.
He would be best as our 4th choice centreback, which I think he currently is. Thus, in his comfort zone.
