Is this what we really need? Another "excitable" character?

I'd have thought an old head on young shoulders would be high on the job description requirements.

I admit though, that no one still comes to mind.

It's not confirmed yet, don't rule out Fulham coming in, if it's not done quickly.

We just need someone who likes to play football & is not a lunatic. MON only had one game plan which was negative, PDC had us good shape & some decent play but was a lunatic. I would of liked McLaren, can't believe I just said that but I think he would have kept us up with some decent football. Look at Swansea they loose Rogers & replace like for like with Laudrup. We seem to go for the opposite of the last manager because it didn't work out. When we should pick someone who will try & play decent balanced football with lots of possession. At last we have a midfield pairing that could play possession football.

I don't think we are far away from a decent team just light upfront now.

Look at Jol's record of handling very difficult players and situations.

He's not a 'laugh a minute' clown like Holloway or Poyet and does interviews begrudgingly, he doesn't crave the limelight.

He speaks languages with ease, has vast experience and can change tactics depending on the game and players available.

He would be able to quell the freedom the current players have and handle Di Fanti without causing huge upset.

Just look at how his record stacks up against our previous half a dozen managers.

We need a cool professional head at the club and he's the man for me. Talk of 'passionate' managers like Poyet, Pearce or Holloway leaves me feeling a bit sick tbh.

Di Matteo wouldn't be my choice. Ho got sacked from West Brom when they were in a similar position to us now. He was successful at Chelsea by letting the senior players just get on with it how they wanted and keeping them happy. That might work with Chelsea's senior players, but it would be a disaster with ours.

I've always said I've wanted Ole Gunner Solskjaer. I wanted him when we appointed both MON and PDC. There's a pattern of TLA (three letter abreviation) managers forming here, MON PDC OGS, please god say that Tony Pulis doesn't have a middle name. However, I don't think he's going to come to us. He's probably got an eye on Moyes's job.

I'm coming around to the idea of Poyet. The only other one that I've not heard mention, who I'd be interested by, is Hoddle. I don't think that he'd not be everyone's cup of tea though.

I don't think he'd be a bad choice. Given our situation he could be the right man. He's got a history of playing the right style to get the best out of the players he's inherited and when given funds he's developed his squad and style accordingly. I think he's a man who could stabilize us and lay a decent foundation over the next 3 years. I think a manager like him can only take you so far, but that could be a very long way in regards to SAFC. He could turn us into a strong mid table side in 3 seasons and that would delight me.

One thing is for sure.. He knows how to organise a defence and make a team hard to break down.

I too was thinking should we wait until Jol gets sacked. My one reservation about him is in recent seasons he has signed quite a few over 30 experienced prem league players i.e Berbatov, Bent, Parker, etc. Based on that i would assume that the likes of O'Shea would (yet again) walk into the team and the clubs senior players would get their way. However, a plus would be he has also signed a lot of nobody's from foriegn leagues and got them to work which would work in our favour. To be honest, ill take anyone as long as they have a head on them and realise O'Shea is ****e and gets him sold come January.

If he, and everyone else, is so bloody convinced he's currently managing the team what with all of his club, national and international experience, plus his years of watching the finest ever British manager, plus his apparent popularity with the players why don't we just cut our losses and appoint him manager on the basis he can't play?!?!?!?!?!?!

Only joking lads  .............. or am I

I know an Ajax supporter and she told me a while ago that the reason Ajax and Jol parted company was due to the negative tactics he employed - Perhaps the lads living in Holland could confirm/deny this was the case. Anyway if it is true it could be back to the MON "do I really have to go to the match" days. Did anyone enjoy Fulham at our place this season? Newcastle got tonked 4 -0 at Man City that weekend and they still had more touches in the oppos penalty area than Fulham did.

    IMO No

Do you pay to go to the matches every other week though? (Not getting at you by the way) but if I had to watch a match every other week where my team had one shot at goal per game I would not be paying £550 odd quid.

oh hold on I have already done that with MON :emoticon-0106-cryin

TBH, I think we'd all settle for that at the moment rather than suffer relegation.

I think Jol would be capable of doing what MON couldn't .... MON brought us to the brink of relegation while playing horrible football.
The fact that Jol is prepared to play people like Berbatov gives you an idea that he has courage.

BTW, my support is excellent. I just came back from 1000 miles away for the Arsenal and West Brom games ........ just saying.

As I said I am not getting at you and am not disputing your credentials as a supporter but I have always in my 40 odd years supporting Sunderland had butterflies in my guts pre match. Under MON's "football" for the first time in my life I was actually travelling to games wishing I wasn't - Jol plays the same safety first way (which is sometimes required of course) that MON played judging by the first home game of the season and as I say I would not want to watch that every week and I suspect a number of others wouldn't either.
