Something not quite right up the road. From the outside looking in I thought Barton and Nolan were the real crux of the team and the driving force and spirit. Losing those two would be disastrous for them, even if they stay their hearts and head won't be in it like last season. I can really see them having a serious case of secong season syndrome. I don't rate Pardew either I deep down I don't think any Newcastle fans do either. If he doesn't get off to good start he'll be a dead man walking.

pardew is a championship manager at best and it looks like ashley only wants to pay championship wages hence the likes of barton and nolan and others to come im sure wont be getting new deals unless its on drastically reduced wages

Much as i'd like the Toon to lunge headlong into crisis, i think Nolan is a player who lost his edge when Carroll went, and is overrating his own value.

His loss to the Toon wouldn't be a big deal IMO, why pay a fat, ageing and average player big bucks?

Barton is the big one, but if you wander around slating the owner of any business publicly, he'll get wind, and you'll be ****ed.

  8. Nolan's "fat" didn't stop him scoring 4 goals against you this season <ok>

He's scored 13 goals and been a big part in our survival, so what if he's isn't a fast sprinter? It doesn't stop him from doing his job. And he's also got 2 years left on his contract anyway.

Nolan, like Superkev, was scoring for fun five years or so ago, but like Super, was pretty much excluded from the England team, he can get goals, and is a decent club pro to the youngans, but like Barton, who I rate as a piece of **** as a human, but would like him playing for us, with a different attitude to life.
for them up the road to get rid smells a bit, but who can tell what the master plan is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if ANY.

Does fat Mike want the Geordies to suffer for all the **** he had to take?, you will have to ask fat boy that question.

Bit bored so thought I'd have a little stroll over no-mans land...

To be honest, I think its another Ashley-esque gamble, that looks sensible on paper, but will no doubt come and bite us in the arse.

Nolan is 29 and his pace (or what he had) HAS gone. Adding a further 3/4 years to the already existing 2 year contract would be lunacy. At the same time, causing unrest amongst the most settled/stable players we have can't be a good thing!

People have talked about Cabaye playing in the CM alongside Tiote, Gutierrez and a new RM/RW out wide with Ben Arfa in the hole. In that starting 11 we could still compete as well if not better than we did this season. But after a few inevitable defeats, I don't know who'd be the player who'll keep their heads up...

We can do nout but wait n see!

I think it is alluding everyone. Any time it seems like things are fitting into place, the board seem to make another unfathomable decision...

Hopefully there'll be a good few players coming through the door. Whether there is any truth in the Gameiro/Gervinho rumors, the fact remains we have money to spend and players coming back from injury. By time the transfer window closes, common sense would suggest we'd be in a stronger position than we're currently in - but aside from a brief stint under Hughton, common sense hasn't been seen too often in the upper echelons of the St James' Park staff!

And again agreed, but I and many of our regular posters, never saw the sense or reason for Hughtons demise,,,,,,,,,,ever. club seems to be managed like a runaway train.

The cynic in me would suggest that it was because Ashley already had an idea in his head that he'd ship out our high earners...

Nolan/Barton/Smith - all of them 28+, on between £50-70k/w but all seen as the spine of Hughton's team and integral to our future under Hughton...By severing one link between players and club, it seems to have made it easier for him and Pardew to make seemingly ruthless decisions. Now Ashley can ship them out, bring in younger, cheaper replacements and label it 'a fresh start'.

Again, as long as their replacements are equal to or better than them this makes a lot of sense of paper, but it still leaves me with a very uneasy feeling, and I can't help but feel a pang of guilt/dissapointment anytime I see Hughton on telly or in the paper...Absolute gentleman and a legend in my eyes!

Spot on mate. We're run by a lunatic, a club that lurches from one crisis to the next, and there's nowt we can do with that arse in charge. The only thing that will make him change his mind is a total boycott (ha) and that will never happen. We're stuck with the twat.
