Theres nothing wrong with a siege mentality. It worked for Wimbeldon under Joe Kinnear and Leeds under Don Revie. However this arrogant atitude that ''We're Manchester United and we deserve to win the league every year and its a great achievement to finish above Manchester United'' thus taking away from another teams achievement is overstepping the mark. He tried to do the same thing with Barcelona and got found out. Pep Gaurdiola.''It will be a difficult game but we will do our best to win''. Alex Ferguson ''We are Manchester United and we deserve to win''. Notice the difference. One is pure humbleness and shows respect for the opponent. The other is arrogance and stupidity.Even Mourinho who is the most arrogant bastard on the planet would never say such a thing.
There is no denying what Fergie has accomplished, a fantastic job during his tenure. It is the way he carries himself that is not so great. as we all have seen over and over. He's an emotional old git and football is a passionate game but he lacks self control no doubt there, he can't help it it is not as if he decides to be an azz, he just opens his gob and out it comes I think. As for saying all the things he said coming up to the final, he had to instill whatever belief he could into the team, but ultimately I think Fergie couldn't convince himself they had a chance if Barca turned up, but he can't say that before the game. It is all the other cr@p Things like we were the better team after a 4 1 thumping just costs him credibility because noone not even the staunchest United fan would believe that
I do understand ''mind games''. And as far as I'm concerned Ferguson doesn't use them right. Ferguson doesn't use ''mind-games'' he oversteps the mark with ''physcological warfare''. Bill Shankly was well known for dismissing the opposition and players...However he only did so in ''team talks'' to his own players. He never mouthed off to the media about other clubs and other players. He always did the reverse when his team won.He would tell his side that they beat ''one of the best teams''. Bob Paisley used to give the opposition ''a bit of toffee'',he would praise them to unsettle them. One example and Page Moss pointed this out before and provided evidence of this in an article that he downloaded that Bob unsettled then Aberdeen player Gordon Strachan before Aberdeen then managed by Alex Ferguson before they travelled to Anfield. It worked and Liverpool won 4-0 on the night, and as Page Moss pointed out Fergie banned his players from ''laughing'' all the way back to Aberdeen.
He actually said they'd be fined £10(lot of money at the time)everytime they got caught laughing during the 4hr journy back to Aberdeen. PS Congrats on your promotion KPR.
Fergie is great at mindgames. He not only winds his opponent up to the point they almost suffer a stroke ( wenger, rafa haha ) he puts them firmly in their place. He also runs the show where the media is concerned. More managers should treat those scumbags like fergie does.
He's 100% right in the way he deals with the pre-match reporters in the press conferences. Its like ''If you ask a stupid question, you'll get a stupid answer''. I'm all for that. Kenny Dalglish is another that does exactly the same thing. It makes them incredibly clever managers, they say a lot by saying very little. Only idiots say a lot and end up saying nothing.Kenny at times without actually saying it says ''Are you ****ing deaf''. Rafa was another that used a trick of answering a question with a question. He would bamboozle them by eventually saying no comment.
Bully. How old was this other manager? 4? Its not bullying at all. I take it we are talking Fergie and Sam? Who was the 'bully' victim? Rafa or Wenger?
So rather than call his behaviour cowardly(on that particular occasion)you would rather berate the victim. Thats big of you.
To be fair Rafa bamboozled himself at times lol. I think mourinho is another who toys ( is that the right spelling in this context? ) with the media brilliantly. They dont even know it though.
Excellent point. Mourinho was one of the funniest at doing it.Clever managers do it brilliantly. He's one of the cleverest. One of the best ones was when he refered to Wenger as a ''Voyuer.
"grow a pair" You mean like his Fackts? he said what many within the game that have'nt got "a pair" would love to say. And i'd have thought fat sam would be the one to need to "grow a pair" as he could'nt take Rafa on alone.
Mourinho is a professional WUM haha. His ability to win up everyone, his own club, rivals and everyone else while at the same time have people in fits of laughter is second to none. The stuff he comes out with. We need a mourinho quotes thread ha.
I think besides Wenger who is simply the definition of deluded no other manager has a problem with fergie at all. In fact he is very well respected. You may not know this but Fergie has helped many of the worlds young up and coming managers. He has had them round for a glass of his finest red ( or white if thats their preference ) and gives them tips and an insight into how to make it in the big bad world of football management. Rafa Benitez was one of these young managers. He was invited to Old Trafford by Fergie in about 2001 given a tour and spoke with Fergie. He loves to offer his know how to young managers. A number of current PL managers have also spoken of the benefits they have had from this in the past.
Excellent Idea. Is there a link to a list of Mourinho quotes. He started off the winding up when he declared himself ''the special one''. I heard that when he first became Chelsea boss he said ''When I speak, you listen,I am European Champion, when you are a winner like me,then you can speak''.It motivated the chelsea players.....they won the league.
There you go with " the world" again. seriously, you're painting the biggest sinner in English football out as some kind of saint. i could post many examples of dark side to trump your post, but i cant be arsed.
In football you get no saints. Fergie is the least saint like person in football. The man is evil but hes also a winner. A natural born winner.
