A few years ago, we had the best striker (Torres) and midfield (Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso) in the world plus the best keeper (Reina) in the league according to a lot of Liverpool fans, how did that work out?
I would argue that Rooney and RVP are the best partnership, followed by Suarez and Studge. That's not saying City, Arsenal, Chavski or Spuds have bad forwards, far from, but they don't have such an effective partnership up top where the players know eachother's game so well and link up to the same level.
City could but there is so much to chop and change to try and fit Aguero, Negredo, Dzeko, jovetic in there. Chelsea well they have everything bar the forwards don't they? Arsenal could be interesting when Podolski and Cathorla comes back.
Any two of that four is strong but can any of them form a good understanding since they all want to be the main man? I'd say their best front pairing is Aguero with David Silva
Silva is more of that AM/LW for me though if we are going just off of striking pairs, it would Aguero and Negredo for me. Big and little.
Disagree. Apart from the facts of goals scored, the big discussions recently have been whether Rooney would accept being second to RVP. Suarez and Sturridge are usually talked of in terms of their great link up play. If RVP and Rooney do well in the same team it is just 2 good players doing well, not teamwork. Rooney has 0 goals from open play. Case closed.
That for me is up there as one that could be the best strike force in the league! Rooney & RvP none too shabby Sturrdige and Suarez is ours and without being overly biased, is up there with the other top tandems in the league.
Only in the same say that Sturridge and/or Suarez won't accept being second to the other. However, any player accepting being second best is a disgrace IMO, you should always aim to be number one but you do your talking on the pitch.
pairs of strikers are passe. you have most sides playing either one up or even false nine like barca. bayern have 2 big lumps and you'll never see them together for instance. LFC have sturridge for no 9 but he plays off the right side. Suarez can play anywhere and honestly coutinho should be in the discussion. you can't talk about pairs or partners when its more than two really i suppose.
I agree and disagree. I agree that the game as moved on from a front pairing but I also believe a team is made up of small, medium and large cogs: Small = an individual player Medium = partnerships on the pitch Large = the team A top team needs all three but, as Man Utd proved under Fergie, cog importance can be in reverse order
Partnerships exist between Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge. Thankfully, all 3 link up well with one another. Without Suarez (suspended), Sturridge and Coutinho were a great parntership. Without Coutinho when he first joined, Suarez and Sturridge were a good partnership. Then when Sturridge was out injured, Coutinho and Suarez had a good relationship.
I agree, all three have formed a partnership with the other two. The only question mark is how well all three link up at once, I guess that would be a larger-medium cog
its a very good point you make. inter play across all areas is vital... eg. RB, RW, RM thats a triangle of players, henderson, sturridge and johnson for instance all need to know how to pass it and move between them to make it work.
It is exciting thinking about having a front 2 of Suarez & Sturridge with an in form Coutinho just behind them. That's enough to worry most teams, and I suppose the good thing is, if one of those 3 are injured then the link up between the remaining 2 is still good enough to cause problems. The real issue is when 2 of those 3 are missing, then we'll be really short on creativity.
Especially if we had Gerrard, Lucas and Alonso behind them in a 433 (well, 4312). Only problem is the lack of energy in the side.
I agree in that if we take 2 players out of the attack (out of Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho) and we will struggle. However, I suppose if you take any 2 key players out of any attack and most team will suffer. And I agree with Gez - we need more energy in the middle. Lucas and Gerrard simply don't do it for me. Matuidi/M'Vila for Lucas, and Alonso for Gerrard would be perfect. I know everyone loves Gerrard but what annoys me is that he WILL make that one amazing ball which creates a chance/goal but everyone focusses on this one moment rather than the other 89 minutes where he is poor. I was watching Arsenal's midfield yesterday and it was pretty much complete - Arteta and Flamini as the holding midfielders, Ramsey as the link with Ozil and Rosicky as the creators. Whilst I admire Henderson and we currently do need his energy, he doesn't offer much going forward. He's basically providing the energy that the central midfield should be providing. I rather we move him back in the middle and then we can use a more effective RW/RWB.
