"Hull City Official Supporters Club (HCOSC) launched a public poll on the website and 85% of 7,445 votes are against the name change." - So much for the opposition being in the minority.

It has been six weeks since Hull City AFC owner Dr. Assem Allam went public with his intention to re-brand the club to “Hull Tigers” (or “Hull City Tigers” in the interim).

Yet despite the largely negative reaction both locally and nationally to the announcement, Dr. Allam remains unrepentant.

Recently he told the Guardian’s David Conn: ‘Leave it to me; I am the businessman running the club – I cannot afford to run the club by fans’ feeling.’

Meanwhile, the majority of those fans have been left feeling disappointed by the decision but resigned to the fact that nothing can be done to sway the owner.

There is no doubt that opposition exists – 77% of visitors to the Hull Daily Mail website would like the club to remain as “Hull City AFC”, while 85% of over 6,000 voters on the Official Supporters Club voted against the name change.

In an effort to unite disappointed fans and to create a voice that can be heard by Dr. Allam, a new collective has formed this week consisting of numerous fans’ groups and fanzines such as Amber Nectar, City Independent and Tigerlink.

Tigerlink’s Peter Johnson told me he wanted to ‘demonstrate that football fans can be organised successfully and responsibly to challenge decisions made within a Club whilst at the same acting in the best interests of that club and its supporters.’

That will be a difficult task which shouldn’t be under-estimated. The world of football has changed. The average supporter is now far less important than he/she has ever been. The owners of clubs are investing eye-watering amounts of money – amounts most fans couldn’t earn in a lifetime.

While the television money handed out to each Premier League team means that even though £30+ for a ticket is a massive amount to the man in the street, it’s a tiny part of the clubs income.

Most fans have come to accept that their support is no longer valued in quite the same way – even if they don’t like it. Fans have also become accustomed to the huge amounts of money available at the top level of English football and accept that to compete, clubs must chase the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

‘We approve of the club actively positioning itself to attract further global interest, but not at the expense of casually disposing our fine heritage, tradition and the reputable name of Hull City AFC’ – Ian Waterson, City Independent
The group hope that by forming a united front they can convince Dr. Allam that the re-branding isn’t needed but aim to do so without compromising support for the club.

Pete Mills of community radio station WHCR: ‘We are not against Dr. Allam’s ownership of the club in any way, shape or form and indeed he has done many great things within the local community over the years which we applaud. However, the name Hull City AFC has also been entrenched within that community since 1904.’

It won’t be an easy task and may take a while but these fans hope that Dr. Allam is for turning.

I'm not trying to say the forum or, indeed, this thread is 'exclusive'. But it's a thread called 'City till we die launched'.

What, just what, do you have to say that's useful regarding the item?

He has very deep pockets. He's a very successful and shrewd businessman. Hasn't a clue how to run a football club though.

"It was decided that once the early day motion is produced then a copy with a covering letter will be sent to respected local MP’s Diana Johnson and Alan Johnson"

Bit of a typo there- it implies Diana Johnson is both local and respected <laugh>

    She is neither.

Doesn't Hull have 3 MPs? And then Haltemprice and Howden? Plus East Riding or whatever is the constituency?
