He is backtracking now. Most new managers are allowed more than one player, especially when dad's army needs rebuilding so badly
At the moment it is all down to the players, they are not performing. The system hasn`t changed much and the players picked should be good enough to beat the teams they have been pitted against but have been well below the expected level.
This is a man that once got Everton to within one place of relegation. Wouldn't bet against it. I'd say top four has to be the target for them now. Arsenal have improved, Chelsea and City are stronger. They are probably on par with Spurs.
To a side that's already beaten Arsenal this season. The only team WBA had beaten prior to you was Sunderland
It's so weird, they've taken the same amount of points from the first 6 games as we did in the season we lost 8-2 to them and people were writing us off as far as top 4 was concerned. Interesting.
For a decade people have been saying what a wonderful job he was doing at Everton but, and yes it's early, quite the opposite seems to be true. They look a much better team so far this season, better than any Everton team under Moyes for sure.
I've been a long critic of Moyes throughout his tenure at Everton. Boring, defensive and functional counter attacking football is all he knows. It's different when you have to break down well organised teams and play progressive football. For years Moyes was just another version of Pulis with the only idea of attacking football being Kevin Kilbane hoofing it up to Duncan Ferguson. I rate Martinez highly and actually thought he should have been given the United job but with Moyes being British, the press won't be on his back as much. Not only would Martinez have had United playing good progressive football but he'd also have been able to entice bigger names. Whilst I don't rate AVB as a manager and think he's equally as negative as Moyes, one thing he has been able to do is attract top foriegn talent and he's also a proven winner with a winning mentality.
Worth noting that with lesser resources, Martinez has won an FA CUP with WIGAN ATHLETIC and secured them wins at WHL (when Spurs have been strong), ANFIELD and the EMIRATES. Martinez also gave Moyes a lesson in footballing tactics when his Wigan side thumped Moyes Everton 3-0 in the FA Cup QF at Goodison Park. Moyes wouldn't have the jugulars to attack United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal AND win.
Long way to go but with City, United and us with new managers and a lot of new players coming in, I wonder whether the team with stability i.e Arsenal have actually a brilliant chance to take the title this year. Would never have said that a month ago!! Who'd have though after the first round of the season Arsenal would be top and United mid table?!!? The title could be won with about 80 points this year which gives teams like Arsenal a real chance. United fans booing their team, calling for their managers head, in a scrap for top 4.....so they are a normal club after all!!!
I found it funny how certain United fans were berating Mourinho for supposedly making his own players feel bad, now Moyes has come out and said he hasn't got enough world class players, they must feel brilliant!
I've said for a while I didn't think Fergie left United in as good as a position as their title win last year would suggest and I think Moyes is realising this day by day as well. Fergie constantly got the best out of good but not great players like Neville, Fletcher, Smalling, O'Shea, Park etc and Moyes doesn't look like he can do the same. Player for player United are at best the 3rd best team in the league but factor in Arsenal's stability and if Spurs gel, they could struggle for 4th genuinely. Rooney is playing brilliantly as well despite Moyes pissing him off in the summer, without Rooney they would be in even bigger trouble. Real shame we didn't get him as we'd probably be title favourites now.
These comments from Moyes just show how inadequate he is at managing a top European side. He's made a fundamental error by basically making it public he doesn't think his team are good enough. Even when I was playing football when I was younger the manager would show he believes we could beat anyone, although we were ****, it gave our confidence a big boost and even finished in the top half one season Simply put Moyes is well out of his depth.
Agreed. He did a good job at Everton but nothing at all to suggest he could make this step up and unfortunetely for him, he's gone to United at a time when there is massive competition at the top, probably most ever in P.L terms. I'd be pretty excited if I was a Spurs, Arsenal or Pool fan right now as this league is so open.
