One of the worst games I have ever had the pleasure of watching the mighty whites. I genuinely believe the only player to come out with any credit would be Mowatt, the only player that actually wanted to get the ball down and pass. He was also the only player that was making runs off the ball, getting stuck in and just in general not wasting possession, although he was quiet for the first 15-20 mins he seemed to grow into the game. Peltier for me was by far the worse player on the pitch, both Tonge and Murphy were ****. Don't really understand the formation we were playing, it was almost a 4-2-2-1-1. Why can't we just play with width? The exact same issue arose despite the change of formation that I've been talking about all season. Their left back was **** yet we made him look like he was champion's league quality, until we play with more width and we cover the opposition's width we will continue to look like idiots. I was embarrassed watching that game. Varney cannot play upfront by himself, if you play with 1 upfront then it has to be Smith. I'm not even sure if we lined up with 1 upfront or not but McCormack kept dropping so deep that Varney was upfront by himself. Just play McCormack hanging off the last defender and dropping deep from there with a striker that isn't a complete idiot who at the very least will be able to control a ball, Ross isn't an attacking midfielder. I have many many frustrations about this game.
They said we played well on Radio Leeds. Their coverage is shocking now. I couldn't work out what formation we were playing against Newcastle. McCormack was causing them problems in the hole then he seemed to move out left and wasn't as effective. It's as though he just sends the players out and tells them to run about a bit and try their best. There seems to be no purpose to our play and a lack of intensity. Have you turned against McDermott yet, Josh? If not, how long before you do if it carries on like this?
That is my opinion. I would like to see this manager and squad given a bit of time. I am not happy with results but I see potential. Signing 2 or 3 players might improve us, depending on who they are, but let's have a little patience.
