The striker's role has changed considerably now that most teams play 4-2-3-1. When everyone played 4-4-2 the attacking burden was shared and there'd usually be one goalscorer and one provider, like Shearer and Sheringham for England. The individual striker seems to have to fulfill both roles. Note how often Giroud will move deeper to meet the ball, allowing the midfielders to push on to receive his flick-ons and through balls, as well as being a target for one-twos. Check his contributions to some great goals from last season: He also had a hand in the winning goal yesterday.
He hasn't even looked like scoring for the past 2 games, which is more of a worry than the goals vanishing. His chance yesterday should have been buried, yet it was nowhere near the target.
The "team" have scored 5 goals in the last two league games.Personally I don't care who is scoring if we are winning.
How can you say he hasn't even looked like scoring when you then say that he should have buried the shot that he missed ? Surely according to your logic, he looked like he was going to score ?
I remember you posting this during the Sunderland game too. You obviously choose not to see any of Giroud's runs or flick ons.
From an opponents point of view, I thought Giroud had a good game. Won a lot of headers and put some hard work in. Yes, he missed a chance - but he was a nuisance (to us) all afternoon.
Don't play dumb with me. Not in the mood. He got himself in a position to score, and made a mess of it and didn't even look like he would score it, ergo, he didn't look like he would score.
This is why I quoted some of the stats earlier. There are many things that players do which I'm sure most of us don't pick up on (and I include myself in that). Outside of goalscoring, Giroud contributes well in other areas.
Perfectly surmised The amount of goals Giroud either scores himself or creates for this team is there to see. Anybody who says he does nothing for the team either talking rubbish or being blinkered by their own bias.
It's not playing dumb Hans, it's pointing out the contradictions in your arguments He looked like he was going to score, even you said that he should have buried it.
