Think Henderson tucked in, Sterling went out wide and Gerrard pushed up a little. It's hard to say, at best our formation could be called fluid although I think it was more disjointed today. Moses never really seemed to know what was required of him, especially in the first half. Can't really blame him, he's a winger being asked to play a link role in the middle that's clearly been designed with Coutinho in mind.

  2. I thought he went RW today with Suarez moving left slightly making it a front three and a 343 system.

He did it against Notts County and done it in some of the reserve/under 21 games so maybe it is something that BR thinks he can do. If we are going to play 352 it doesn't matter if hes not the best defensively as you have 3 CB's behind you covering but also allows him to attack more.

I think Sterling needs to work on what type of player and position he's best suited to though. At the moment he's like Walcott when he first came into the team, head down and run but doesn't have much skill to beat a man and not technically gifted enough to cut in and link up play.

Walcott has added goals to his game and if Sterling wants to play up the top end of the pitch, he needs to add that as well.

Think a loan move would do him good, somewhere away from the pressure of coming on and performing for us, when he is only 18 still!

  4. I do keep reminding myself he is still only 18 (19 in December) <laugh>

Totally agree about the loan though <ok>

Think he has suffered a bit from everyone hyping him up since he was 16! Seems to have stagnated a bit in recent times hopefully partly due to these off the field problems which he can now put behind him.

I couldn't disagree more, they were superb today Lucas broke up play, Gerrard picked passes it's a combination that will improve throughout the season and be essential to any success we have this season.

  7. He was brilliant when he burst into the team at the start of last season but he's struggling for about a year now. I think he is a bit predictable s defenders are just dealing with him. Personal issues won't have helped either.

  9. I love and hate Sakho <laugh>

I love him because he is crazy but also always looking to play the ball out of defence. I hate him because I can't tell what he is going to do and I doubt he even knows!!!

Also, is it me or does he appear to scuff the ball every time he kicks it?
And his right foot is only good for standing on!

  11. I think it just appears that way because of how lanky his legs are <laugh>

I think he will become a great player for us once he settles at the club <ok>

The Sunderland fans around me rated Sterling very highly. I was surprised because he doesn't play much and he hasn't really had a standout performance for a while.

We played 3-5-2 under Evans, and whatever else our shortcomings then, the football was great. Thought Henderson was a better wingback than Enrique today, but when he's fit it should suit Johnno completely. Try Hendo in Lucas's role when he's suspended. I think he'll excel.

Talking of Hendo , in between sobbing about Studge's goal with his fellow commentator, Fartin Tyler repeatedly said his transfer fee was £20m. I read it was £16m. Anyone know the truth?

  14. I loved the football under Roy Evans but that was during a different era. Most teams were still playing a standard 442 in straight lines.

However, the comparison to that era has given me an idea. Who is who from that to this system:

    James - Migs
    Babb - Toure
    Scales - Agger
    Wright - Sakho
    Jones - Johnson
    Bjornebye - Enqirue
    Barnes - Gerrard
    Redknapp - Lucas
    McManaman - Coutinho
    Fowler - Sturridge
    Collymore - Suarez

    Who would win...?

To my knowledge £16m is correct, large sections of the sports media still quote it incorrectly i.e.£20m

I've always read it was £16m, don't know about add-ons. And as well as Hendo's played there is no way he can have lived to up to £4m worth of add-ons yet

16.5. Downing was 20 and commentators like to say Hendo was 20 to be dick heads

  18. Thought it was £16m with add-ons that would make it £20m

If true, I'd imagine that winning things and gaining CL football would be part of those add-ons and so far, we've only had a Cadbury's Cream Egg Cup <ok>

Really? Knowing Commoli staying in the Prem would have probably been part of the add on bonus <doh>

Thought Sakho looked pretty good today. Sterling I think is a one dimensional player at the minute, as an 18 year old he's got pace but doesn't look like he has a plan. Turns out his personal troubles were more about his girl trying to make a few quid out of him than anything actually bad. Still think he needs a lifestyle change, stop hanging around with users.
