Adkins had been suing Saints for unfair dismissal, but has now accepted a pay off of £500k. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...on-Nigel-Adkins-settle-500k-compensation.html DTLW
It was the right decision in hind sight, but the club could of dealt with it better, and 500k he deserves it for getting us up to the prem, even tho it's nothing compared to what promotion made the club
Adkins probably claimed for his full contract as a starting position...Saints would obviously want to pay less than that. His position was weakened by taking a job...in the sense that his loss was less than if he had been unemployed till 2015. An agreement was reached. These things always go to negotiation. He did great for us and he has come out a richer man with an enhanced reputation. Glad it's settled without a court case.
They should have paid him off in Jan. He worked wonders for us and fully deserved to be paid up. As said above glad it didn't get nasty. Hope they come up next year.
We don't know what he was offered in January...may have been not far off the 500K he has settled for. We will never know.
I would be astounded if he hadn't already had a hefty bonus for getting us up. However, as ever, it's better to jaw jaw than to war war, so I'm very glad it's settled out of court and that the matter's now finished. NA's a great believer in drawing a line under things and moving on so I feel this will turn out good for everyone. I do, bizarrely, root for Reading. (Bizarre because the behaviour of a group of their fans after our home game against them in the Championship put me in fear for my little lad's safety, the only time I've felt that way, so by rights I should dislike them.)
